Ready-to-Install Precision for Supreme Dynamics

Rexroth TKL ball rail table with linear motor and integrated measuring system

A linear motor and an integrated measuring system deliver supreme dynamics and precision.
Rexroth’s TKL ball rail table offers significantly easier engineering for demanding single and multi-axis systems. The linear axis, which is ready to be installed, combines a high-dynamic linear motor, an integrated measuring system and high-load ball rail systems. The coordinated interaction of a synchronous linear motor, intelligent controller and inductive measuring system increases productivity by delivering precise positioning even for very fast travel speeds or short movements in rapid succession.

Contained inside the TKL ball rail table is a fixed, permanently magnetized secondary part in the Rexroth linear motor which drives the primary part, in turn supported by two ball rail systems, with zero-clearance or free from wear. The two linear guides provide superior axis rigidity, with three sizes being available to cover a wide range of applications, including, for example, machine tools, transfer stations or test benches. The feeding force ranges from 600 N to 7,150 N maximum force. Matching ball rail systems in sizes 20, 25 and 30 provide superior axis rigidity even under extreme loads. For speeds of over 5 m/s Rexroth equips the ball runner blocks with high-speed ceramic balls. An optional clamping and brake unit makes it possible to stop and hold the system in a certain position and secures the axis in the vertical position even in the event of a power failure.

Measuring up to 3,980 mm in length, the tables are a mere 100 to 200 mm in height. In addition, the integrated measuring system does not require any additional space. The relative position is measured inductively by a sensor on the runner block via a high-precision steel strip which has a pitch of 1000 µm and is incorporated across the full length of the guide rail. The scale and rail are both made of the same material and therefore have the same coefficients of expansion as steel. The laser-welded connection between the profiled rail and measuring system can also withstand extreme vibrations and impacts and is therefore suitable for harsh production conditions. Being an inductive measuring system the rugged measuring system is immune to magnetic fields. It achieves a resolution of up to 0.25 µm. Glass scales are also available from Rexroth as an option.

The built-in elements are protected from oil and moisture by welded high-speed bellows. For ease of maintenance there is a lubrication connection for the central lubrication system on both sides. As for the control of the high-dynamic linear motors, Rexroth draws on the wide range of IndraDrive intelligent servo-drives. These control the axis on a distributed basis via the world-wide standardized SERCOS real-time communication system. In addition, Multi-Ethernet, field bus, analog or positioning interfaces are also available for the control function.
