Creative Diversions

Behind the Scenes

A stodgy, old German-based company with a sense of humor? No way!

Yes, way!

From humble origins, the Creative Diversions project started as part of a Bosch corporate contest among all its Marketing groups worldwide to find inexpensive ways to promote the company brands. Inexpensive and serious ways.

Creative Diversions was our Rexroth USA entry in the contest. Our team of five of the least serious people in Bosch Rexroth came to the startling conclusion that engineers love humor, and that we could draw many new visitors to our web site if we could stop being serious for just a few minutes. We hatched the name “Creative Diversions” from the long list of one suggestion, and invited our colleagues in Rexroth to submit humorous Top-10 Lists and other funny German- or engineering-related items. After compiling the initial lists, we e-mailed them to everyone we could think of and asked them to, well, Spread the Diversions.

Although our reach was very good right from the start, the Bosch judges ranked our project “only” in the top third of the global contest. Being fun-loving people, we were really sad to miss out on lunch with one of the top executives at Bosch in Stuttgart. (The cash would have been nice, too.)

Of course, time heals all wounds, and, not loving clichés, the five of us moved on. Until suddenly we discovered that people were signing up for our newsletter at an alarmingly high rate and that we were receiving growing numbers of really funny submissions every day. So in response to popular demand, we’ve decided to keep going and to post regular updates to the site.

We hope that you enjoy our little project as much as we do working on it! With the support of readers, subscribers, the trade press, of Bosch and Rexroth associates, and most importantly, the Wide World of Engineers, we will continue to show you the fun side of Bosch Rexroth. And maybe some day, someone in Stuttgart will buy us lunch. THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
