High-Speed Dart


 

Linear motors and Drive-based solution from Bosch Rexroth in a powerful application.

Bosch Rexroth has supported and enabled the technical realization of an ambitious university project. The objective of this project was the development of a dartboard that uses a camera system to track a dart, then moving the dartboard so fast that that the dart hits the bulls eye every time! Even though the ‘High-Speed Dartboard’ is a demonstration, it impressively shows the capability of high speed sensors and actuators to perform high performance motion in real-world applications.


How to hit the Bull’s Eye?
With a moving range of 3.28x3.28 feet the dartboard accelerates at up to 13g, and reaches a maximum speed of about 26.25 feet per second. To place the dartboard in the right position four highly dynamic Bosch Rexroth linear motors are used. SERCOS III open network is used to synchronize the axes for repeatable high performance motion.
