Bosch Rexroth has been the leading pneumatic component manufacturer for automation of rail hopper cars since the 1960s. Our involvement in the railroad industry dates back to the late 1800s with the invention of the air brake. Our success can be attributed to high quality, reliable and innovative products along with an unsurpassed customer satisfaction record. Primarily today, our division supplies the rail car industry with double acting pneumatic cylinders and directional control valves for control of hopper gates. Sometimes these are manually controlled with our directional control valves, and other times our solenoid version of the valves are used for remote control. Most often the cars are hauling coal or aggregate. Some unloading facilities utilize open trestles where the coal is unloaded while the train is moving.

Rail Car Cylinders:
- Heavy Duty Cast Heads & Caps - Standard 12" and 14" bore cylinders come with cast ductile iron heads and caps.
- Tube Material Options - Choice of chrome plated I.D. steel tubing or lightweight fiberglass tubing.
- Piston Rod Options - Hard chrome plated steel or stainless steel.
- Various Stroke Lengths - Numerous cylinders with standard stroke lengths between 17" and 30" have been produced and have standard part numbers. In addition, we are always able to meet customers' specific needs.
- Mounting Style Flexibility - NFPA MP1, MS4 and customized mounts available.
Rail Car Valves:
- Operator Choices - Manual or solenoid operators.
- Mounting Flexibility - Choose from subplate mounted or tapped body options.
- Variety of Port Sizes - Port sizes range from 1/4" thru 1 1/4"NPT
Pre-Lubricated Components:
- Air-line lubricators available, but not required.
Additional Accessories:#
- Flow Metering Devices - Flow control valves, Quick release valves, and Check valves for flow metering.
- Air Supply Accessories - Filters, regulators, antifreezers, etc.
- Other Cylinder Types - Light to medium duty aluminum Taskmaster and heavy duty Powermaster cylinders provide various control functions.
