In past decades,the technical development ofhydraulic plastics processing machines andmachine tools was mainly driven by the ob-jective ofincreasing productivity (accuracy,cycle time,etc.).The use ofproportional andhigh-response valves and the improvement ofenergy balance through the use ofelectroni-cally adjustable pumps were in the forefront.In the last few years,the requirements withregard to energy savings and noise reductionhave become increasingly stringent.Rexrothresponds to these changed requirements withthe use ofvariable-speed pump drives (DvP).These are combinations ofvariable-speedelectric motors and pumps.Given the abilityto reduce the electric motor speed energy canbe saved,especially while idling.Dependingon the machine cycle,the speed reductioncan contribute to lower energy losses andnoise levels,even during slow movements.Rexroth provides two concepts for this so-lution.One is a simple frequency converterusing a standard electric motor and variabledisplacement pump and the other is a highlydynamic servo motor with fixed displacement pump.Both systems can control pres-sure and flow on a machine.
