Electronic control of component functions – for flexibly adaptable machine behavior

Bosch Rexroth’s eOC/eCC technology shifts the control of mobile machine component functions from mechanical and hydromechanical systems to electronics and software. This allows component behavior to be flexibly parameterized while minimizing the number of hardware variants compared with purely hydromechanical control architectures.

Whether open or closed circuit: eOC/eCC provides all the building blocks for software-defined vehicles in a modular system – hydrostatic pumps and motors, sensors, electronic controls, and smart software. Standardized interfaces make it easy to integrate OEM control units or extend the architecture with third-party system components for future-proof machine automation.

eOC – precise performance for every operating condition

eOC (electronic Open Circuit) overcomes a key limitation of mobile machines: Instead of designing component functions around unfavorable operating conditions, they can be adapted to the actual operating point. This maximizes performance based on the environment, task, and weather conditions – with less complexity and no additional hardware costs. At the same time, software enables fast delivery of hydraulic flow, pressure, or power, making the machine more dynamic and enabling energy recuperation. Find out in the eOC one-pager how you can further increase efficiency, enable recuperation, and implement drive functions using more cost-effective eOC components.

Benefits:

  • Virtually unlimited customization of work functions with dramatically fewer component variants
  • Operating-point-dependent component functions – better utilization of performance potential instead of fixed limitations
  • Option to extend the use of more cost-effective eOC components to drive functions – based on the principle of secondary control

eCC – scalable intelligence for hydrostatic drives

eCC (electronic Closed Circuit) is the product portfolio for the electronification of hydrostatic drive systems in mobile machinery. The portfolio ranges from individual components to complete subsystem solutions for travel, winch, and fan drives, as well as power-split transmissions. This allows the available drive power to be used efficiently and enables different machine performance classes to be implemented with identical hardware – a software update is all it takes. At the same time, eCC lays the foundation for new machine functions and future-proof machine architectures. Learn more about the technology and your benefits in the eCC one-pager.

Benefits:

  • Scalable solutions ranging from individual software-controlled components to complete drive systems
  • Fewer hardware variants and simplified engineering thanks to software-based functions
  • Maximum system efficiency through intelligent component coordination and next-generation axial piston units

Frequently asked questions

Can I use eOC/eCC even without Bosch Rexroth software?

Yes. eOC/eCC can also be used without Rexroth software – for example, with an OEM’s own software. A comprehensive hardware and software portfolio is available for both open- and closed-circuit systems. However, using eOC/eCC-compatible hardware and software from a single source can further minimize system integration effort and risk. Standard solutions also help accelerate the development of prototypes and proofs of concept (PoCs).

Why do I need eOC for valve control?

Hydraulic valves can also be controlled without an electronically controlled pump. Valve Actuation Control (VAC) is a basic function within the eOC-S software construction kit and is available as a standalone package. More importantly, however, it provides the foundation for higher-level control functions.

These include orchestrating multiple valve axes operating in parallel and matching valve openings to the available hydraulic power. At the system level, this helps prevent undersupply conditions and allows priorities to be defined for hydraulic flow distribution (flow sharing / flow matching).

Can I combine eOC and eCC application software on a single control unit?

In principle, yes. The modular eOC/eCC software architecture provides this flexibility. Combining two standard software packages, however, means creating and validating a new, customized software variant. At the machine or portfolio level, it may also make sense to separate drive control, work hydraulics control, and machine control to make software modules easier to reuse.

How effectively can electronic control replace conventional hydromechanical control?

A fundamental objective of eOC and eCC is to fully replicate established hydromechanical control mechanisms through electronic control of high-performance hydraulics. Once the basic functions are in place, the real advantages of dynamically adjustable control parameters can be utilized. Contact us – we’ll help you determine the right solution for your project.

What aftermarket concept does Bosch Rexroth offer for eOC/eCC?

eOC and eCC solutions are generally covered by the same aftermarket terms as conventional products. Once a product transitions to “Service” status, Bosch Rexroth ensures spare parts availability for ten years. Optionally, choose a tailored customer agreement to cover longer supply periods – for example, through last-time buys.
