Bosch Rexroth and TotalEnergies want to advance alternative, more sustainable hydraulic fluids

  • Letter of intent on cooperation signed
  • Focus on benefits for environment and entire industry

Bosch Rexroth and TotalEnergies want to cooperate more closely in the development, qualification, introduction and marketing of water-based hydraulic fluids with the emphasis on sustainability, fire-resistance and performance. A letter of intent to this end was signed in Lyon, France on December 18.

The planned collaboration will focus on more sustainable water-containing, bio-degradable and fire-resistant alternatives to mineral oil based hydraulic fluids. They shall thus be more environmentally friendly and safer than previous solutions while offering comparable performance.

“Taking this step in the spirit of our responsibility as a leading hydraulics specialist, we are driving the development towards sustainability also in the field of hydraulic fluids. To this end, TotalEnergies is a first partner with whom we are working on sustainable alternatives to mineral oil based hydraulic fluids. They shall be widely available in the market”, says Dr. Steffen Haack, CEO of Bosch Rexroth.

As part of the planned non-exclusive collaboration, Bosch Rexroth will be responsible for defining the requirements for the respective fluids and for testing, qualifying and certifying them accordingly. The hydraulics specialist leading in many areas will also contribute its market access. TotalEnergies, a leading global supplier of hydraulic fluids and other products, develops and distributes the fluids. Together, the companies also want to contribute to the necessary standardization work and develop business models. The goal: qualified, certified, more sustainable alternatives to mineral oil based fluids – for the entire industry.
