Rexroth EasyHandling automates handling tasks economically, reduces engineering effort...

With its new mechatronics platform, Rexroth addresses the need for increasingly economic approaches to the automation of handling tasks. Systematic and seamless integration of all drive and control technologies with linear actuators, standardized mechanical and electrical interfaces, and new start-up and commissioning tools dramatically simplify the automation process. EasyHandling is more than just a modular system and reduces the total time required to assemble, configure and commission an installation by up to 80 percent.

The Rexroth EasyHandling system solution is based on a three-level architecture, which includes basic, comfort, and advanced versions. These cover all levels of automation – from mechatronic actuators, to intelligent axes, through to complete preconfigured system solution.

The EasyHandling basic version spans all mechanical drive principles to create mechanical single- and multi-axis systems with motors and pneumatics, ready to install. Pneumatic actuators such as grippers and rotary modules, as well as sensors, are also available. An easy-to-use online selection tool shortens configuration and planning time.

Pre-configured servo drives, EasyWizard reduce effort further

The EasyHandling comfort level adds preconfigured Rexroth servo drives across the entire range of basic axes. Using newly developed hardware that supports several Ethernet protocols, servo drives realize communication with Rexroth IndraDrive Cs controllers via SERCOS III Ethernet, PROFINET IO, EtherNet/IP, and EtherCat. It is also possible to outfit the drives with a PROFIBUS or other traditional communication interface. The EasyHandling comfort version thus combines ultra-high versatility with unsurpassed ease in commissioning and start-up.

EasyWizard from Rexroth is a servo system commissioning tool in which specific electrical and mechanical data are quickly defined for each axis. EasyWizard recognizes the electronic nameplate of the Rexroth IndraDyn motor and links the data to the mechanical parameters after the part number of the linear module is entered. This narrows the scope of commissioning to the identification of just a few application-specific parameters and cuts the time otherwise required by up to 90 percent.

EasyHandling also greatly simplifies design and assembly, since Rexroth’s perfectly-matched Easy-2-Combine connection system cuts up to 75% of the time and effort needed for custom fabrication of adapter components.

Adaptable Maintenance Instructions Extend Service Life

In the third version, EasyHandling advanced, a preconfigured motion-logic controller compliant with the IEC 61131-3 and PLC open standards is pre-integrated into the handling systems by Rexroth. Handling tasks that used to require extensive programming can now be configured extremely fast thanks to predefined functions and an included ready-made HMI solution. The controller assumes the coordinated point-to-point motions and smoothing and optimized handling paths for Cartesian systems. Based on the axis-specific mechanical data defined, the drive controller software also provides the operator with maintenance instructions that correspond to the specific run times and travel paths. That makes it easier to adhere to lubrication intervals, thereby increasing service life and reducing the risk of mechanical failure.
