Technology development

I’m Matthias and I’m studying mechanical engineering in Darmstadt. I’m currently doing my practical semester at Bosch Rexroth in Lohr am Main. The internship was an excellent opportunity to put the theory I had learned during my studies into practice. This includes, for example, evaluating and analyzing various test results.

What made you decide on Bosch Rexroth?

The company has a good reputation as a training company and also offers excellent career opportunities. Furthermore, at Bosch you can choose between many interesting product groups, and you can start your professional life in your precise area of interest. This makes Bosch Rexroth a very attractive employer in my eyes. Varied projects within the department make for exciting day-to-day work.

What was your best experience?

My happiest moment at work during my internship was when a number of tests confirmed that a newly developed system parameterization was much more efficient and error-resistant. Everyone involved in the project was thrilled. My professional training and experience enabled me to put forward important suggestions as part of projects during my internship, which in turn contributed to the progress of the company.

Can you describe your internship?

Portrait of a student

I completed my six-month internship alongside my studies. During this period, my supervisor took a lot of time to explain and show me certain areas of work within the department. This allowed me to gain direct insights into the world of work, which I can take with me for my future career. After my internship, I will start on my bachelor thesis at Bosch Rexroth in the area of developing a forecast model for hydraulic components.

What are your responsibilities?

During my internship, I assisted with the development of manufacturing processes for industrial motors. One of my main tasks was evaluating and analyzing certain trials. Among other things, I tested components of a servo motor for corrosion resistance. As part of this process, I organized, performed, evaluated, and logged climate chamber tests. I also assisted with system optimizations with the aim of defining new system parameterization. Tests were performed, which I then evaluated and used as the basis for developing further test series. In addition, I am currently involved in the acquisition of a new industrial cleaning system. We are in the process of carrying out various steps to evaluate and select a supplier. All in all, these tasks give me a high level of variety and diversity in my daily work. As a full member of the department, I was given responsibility for important tasks as an intern, which I worked on independently or in cooperation with my colleagues as part of a team.

What is the corporate culture like at Bosch Rexroth?

I find the work culture in the company to be very pleasant, as the associates are motivated by the managers and receive open feedback. This ensures a high level of commitment among associates. In projects, clear and achievable goals are set, which are pursued by the entire project team from start to finish. The working day is flexible, and all this makes for a very satisfactory working atmosphere.

Looking back, I’m very pleased with how my internship went. I had a great time and was able to acquire a lot of practical experience. I’m now looking forward to completing my bachelor’s thesis in cooperation with Bosch Rexroth.
