Synchronous servo motors range extended to offer even greater functionality

MS2N series ideal for Industry 4.0 applications

Leading drive and control specialist Bosch Rexroth has extended its acclaimed range of IndraDyn S MS2N series synchronous servo motors with new models delivering even greater functionality and configurability.

The new additions offer a complete, customised and ready-to-use solution for the most demanding drive applications, both new and retrofit. Maximum torque ranges from 4 Nm to 360 Nm, with both force-ventilated and water-cooled variants.

The MS2N range already comprises numerous equipment variants, with innovative features like the choice of single or dual-cable motor connections with quick lock coupling, and functional options such as ingress protection, holding brake and single- or multi-turn encoders in various performance classes.

Digital encoder systems with ACURO®link interface allow for single-cable connection with up to 75m cable length and offer certified safety according to SIL2 PLd. Thie enables the full scope of functions of modern drive technology with motor data memory and real time processing of motor measurements.

The individual measurements of every single motor, as well as the saturation and temperature data, are stored in the memory of the relevant motor encoder and automatically processed by IndraDrive controllers. This information considerably increases torque accuracy and reduces the tolerance interval in the ongoing operation to a fraction of present values. It is now possible for the first time to use the servo motor as a reliable sensor and data source – and so to cost-effective realise new applications in line with the requirements of Industry 4.0, such as condition monitoring, without the need for additional components.

With variants from frame size MS2N07 and upwards, the motors are available with forced ventilation or water cooling options and now cover a complete range from 17.5 Nm to 214 Nm continuous torque at standstill with considerably increased power density and optimum energy efficiency.

Meanwhile, the additional cooling enables operation at greater speeds and temperatures with higher continuous torque and motor power without the need for larger or longer motors. With MS2N10, the fan is completely integrated into the motor and offers major performance advantage in the smallest installation footprint.

All fan motors offer protection to IP65, and boast an integrated temperature sensor with certified intrinsic safety as well as a choice of connection voltage of 115 V or 230 V.

The cooling circuits of the water-cooled motors are made from stainless steel and allow for simple and reliable connection to most machine cooling system variants, with thermal decoupling allowing for the realisation of applications with the highest requirements on the machining precision.

Two selectable flange accuracies - the sealing air option integrated ex-factory, and the “Standard” encoder class with Hiperface® interface - offer additional configuration options.
