Increasing efficiency in a package sorting facility

Initial situation

The operator wanted to optimise the energy efficiency of a package sorting facility. It was equipped with conventional drive technology and air-conditioned control cabinets.

The Rexroth 4EE Solution

Rexroth energy efficiency consultants analysed the entire plant and replaced the conventional drives with IndraDrive Mi motor-integrated inverters, thereby eliminating the need for control cabinet air-conditioning. Moreover, the new automation solution uses features such as grid feed-in, energy buffering with capacity modules, and energy exchange using an intermediate circuit to realize further energy savings.

The result

By switching to a decentralised drive system and consistently recovering excess energy, the operator was able to lower energy consumption by 35 percent.
