Kassow Robots develops app-based, real-time interface for ctrlX OS

Kassow Robots, a Copenhagen-based manufacturer of high-performance seven-axis lightweight collaborative robots, has announced the launch of its new Kassow Robots Connector App for the operating system ctrlX OS from Bosch Rexroth. The app enables seamless real-time integration of the company’s cobots into the ctrlX OS environment, significantly simplifying commissioning, control, and system integration for industrial automation solutions.

As part of Bosch Rexroth, Kassow Robots expands the capabilities of the open automation platform ctrlX AUTOMATION to include robotic applications with this new app-based interface.

Previously, connecting ctrlX OS devices to Kassow Robots’ cobots required PLC programming and provided only limited real-time functionality. The newly developed Kassow Robots Connector App eliminates these constraints by making all relevant cobot data available in real time via the ctrlX Data Layer, while offering an intuitive user interface for setup, monitoring, and control.

Developers and operators can connect and monitor robots, execute motion commands, acknowledge alarms, and interact in jog mode directly from a ctrlX OS device. The solution also enables programming via CODESYS PLC or other apps from the ctrlX OS Ecosystem.

“Our goal is to reduce integration complexity for customers and partners,” said Kristian Kassow, founder and CEO of Kassow Robots. “By centralizing control, data access, and system interaction on ctrlX OS, we help accelerate commissioning and enable more flexible, intelligent automation solutions.”

By allowing seamless integration of partner technologies such as vision systems, grippers, and HMIs, the Connector App supports the development of intelligent automation solutions, including palletizing, bin picking, and mobile robotics applications. For example, the company's cobots can be combined with the localization and navigation solutions of the Bosch Rexroth ROKIT Robotics Kit to create multi-technology mobile robotics solutions. Navigation, safety, motion control, and robot control can be centrally configured and managed via a single ctrlX OS device.

Key benefits include:

  • Unified control architecture
  • Direct real-time communication between cobot and control system
  • Reduced integration and commissioning time
  • Increased system flexibility through modular design

By enabling all components to interact via a common platform, the Kassow Robots Connector App simplifies development, integration, and future system updates. For more information on the app, please visit kassowrobots.com.

About Kassow Robots:
Kassow Robots, founded in Copenhagen, Denmark, by Kristian Kassow, develops and manufactures unique, efficient 7-axis lightweight robots for industrial applications. Bosch Rexroth has been the majority shareholder since April 2022, with co-owner Kristian Kassow continuing as CEO. The company’s motto is “strong, fast, simple.” Its robots offer speed, power, and extended reach. The user-friendly design gives businesses greater flexibility, enabling SMEs without in-house robotics specialists to implement complex automation and programming cost-effectively and independently. Additionally, the compact design of the cobots allows them to be used in confined spaces. The robust product family includes five lightweight cobots: the KR 810 (850 mm reach / 10 kg payload), KR 1018 (1000 mm / 18 kg), KR 1205 (1200 mm / 5 kg), KR 1410 (1400 mm / 10 kg), and KR 1805 (1800 mm / 5 kg). In April 2024, Kassow Robots launched the Edge Edition— a 7-axis cobot with a controller integrated into the base.
