Mobile Control Technology Hybrids: Matching value to performance demand

Mobile Control Technology Hybrids: Matching value to performance demand

An adapter plate permits the creation of a “hybrid” mobile control solution that combines leading M4 sectional valve control technology with cost effective ED series bankable valve elements.

Rexroth continues its leadership in mobile control technology by hybridizing the best of both worlds: high-tech M4 series sectional valves combined in a single assembly with the modular ED family of compact directional valves. The performance requirement of any given machine function can now be perfectly matched to each valve section’s performance….and price.

When mobile applications require diverse flow rates for varying functions, Bosch Rexroth’s sectional control solutions match the right valve to the required flow. This means the hydraulic system can be fully optimized, potentially reducing the size and cost of components. Because smaller also means lighter, this helps satisfy increasing requests from manufacturers for total machine weight reduction. At the same time, this assures overall cost effectiveness because valve sections are sized for a specific functional requirement; over-sized valve sections are a thing of the past.

The ED family of modular directional valves contains both proportional and switching valves, load sense and standard functions, with valve sections sized for flow rates from 4 to 15 gpm and up to 4500 psi. All three ED platforms – EDB (up to 4 gpm), ED1 (up to 8 gpm) and ED2 (up to 15 gpm) – share a common mounting interface and can be combined in any order. Downstream stacking modules such as pressure controls, flow controls and load-holding elements further enhance the flexibility of this modular product line. When these options are further applied across six different flow-rate optimized proportional controls, the combinations are nearly limitless.

Rarely does a piece of mobile equipment require the same flow rate and same control precision for all functions. Many mobile control solutions on the market require one size valve to be used for all functions controlled by the “stack.” With a Rexroth hybrid solution, a functions requiring high precision with high flow output are addressed with one technology, while low flow, or low precision functions (e.g. stabilizers, counterweight lifts, locking pins, etc.) can be addressed with lower cost, flow-rate-specific valve sections. Machine manufacturers can rest assured they will never over-specify, or over-pay, for a given functionality when the best of all Rexroth worlds are combined in a hybrid M4+ED mobile control solution.
