Rexroth Compact Servo Drive Wins Engineers’ Choice Award from Control Engineering magazine

The IndraDrive Cs compact drive system gives machine builders more flexibility when selecting a compact servo drive that delivers the right amount of functionality fortheir low-power range application

Control Engineering magazine readers recognize Bosch Rexroth for its IndraDrive Cs compact servo drive that provides flexibility and value for low-power applications.

(Hoffman Estates, IL—www.boschrexroth-us.com/brc ) Bosch Rexroth’s compact IndraDrive Cs low-power servo drive recently won Control Engineering magazine’s 2011 Engineers’ Choice Award in the “Machine and Motion Control Servo Drives” category.

Control Engineering made the announcement in February with a special supplement to the magazine along with an Engineers’ Choice listing at www.controleng.com . Voting for the award was conducted earlier in 2010 by those who have the most experience using motion control products: the magazine’s readers.

Rexroth’s IndraDrive Cs low-power servo drive features an extremely compact, space-saving design and open support of multiple Ethernet-based communication busses for more flexibility. The IndraDrive Cs supports Sercos III, ProfiNet, EtherNet/IP and EtherCat communications, and is ideal for many different industries including machine tool, printing, converting, packaging, semiconductor, medical applications, and other industries.

Designed for flexibility and just the right amount of power at a lower cost, the drive has a universal encoder interface port supporting Hiperface®, EnDat 2.1 and 2.2, 1Vss, 5 V TTL and Resolvers. Adding functionality and overall cost savings, the small IndraDrive Cs can also be equipped with a drive-based PLC that integrates motion and logic according to IEC 61131-3 standards, as well as Safety On Board capability for certifiable drive-based machine safety.

The IndraDrive Cs comes with digital inputs and outputs plus an analog input on board, integrated brake resistor, optional second encoder interface and an intelligent operation panel with programming module function. IndraDrive Cs is available in two compact designs and is capable of operating low power motors rated up to 3.5 kW with drive peak current ranging from 3A up to 28A. An addition to this drive family with extended current output is planned to come out in the near future.

“Innovative solutions such as the Rexroth IndraDrive Cs economy servo drive make manufacturing and other control engineering applications more efficient through smart applications of new technologies,” commented Mark T. Hoske, Control Engineering content manager. “Continuous improvements among leading technology providers ensure that manufacturers, machine builders, and automation system integrators can achieve the levels of agility, efficiency, and effectiveness necessary to compete—and win—in today’s global economy,” he added.

More than 100 product nominations from 65 companies were entered for consideration in this year’s Engineers Choice Awards. Control Engineering subscribers voted to identify the products they felt were the most exceptional based on technological advancement, service to the industry, and market impact.

Rexroth’s innovative IndraMotion MLC motion logic controller with embedded robotics won the magazine’s 2008 Engineers’ Choice Award in the “Motors, Drives, and Motion Control” category.
