Rexroth’s Planetary Screw Assemblies: Big Solutions in Small Packages

Bosch Rexroth Planetary Screw Assemblies

Rexroth’s Planetary Screw Assemblies (commonly referred to as roller screws) have a compact design for easy integration into applications requiring high load capability.

Ideal for forming and pressing operations, molding and medical technology, Rexroth’s Planetary Screw Assemblies (commonly referred to as roller screws) are a cost effective, high-performance drive system that uses precision threaded rollers that rotate around the screw, converting rotary motion into linear motion. Its compact design makes it easy to integrate into applications requiring high load capability, precision and low environmental impact. Rexroth’s economical, high quality Planetary Screw Assemblies ship quickly and offer an efficient drive solution for applications requiring up to 65,000 pounds of force.

Offering all of the advantages of roller screws – compact design, precision, quiet and clean operation – Planetary Screw Assemblies (PLSA) are used in drive systems and are comprised of threaded rollers (planets) that rotate around the screw. Ultimately, this produces efficient linear actuation that is easy to integrate into applications (new and existing) that require high load capability, precision and low environmental impact.

The series comprises cylinder and flange nuts as well as screws with different diameters and leads. Dynamic and static load capacities of up to 544kN and 1496 kN respectively, combined with more compact dimensions and lower noise levels, enable a wide range of existing and new applications requiring up to 65,000 pounds of force.

Smooth Running Characteristics

The new PLSAs attain very high positioning and repeat accuracy, even when minimal travel distances are involved. The planetary design, with planets positioned axially parallel around a rolled threaded screw, ensures very smooth running characteristics and noticeably lower noise emissions compared to ball screws. The numerous contact surfaces inherent in the design lead to a high load-bearing capacity and a long service life.

Additionally, the innovative sealing system in the roller screw results in long lubrication intervals. This, in turn, reduces maintenance costs and helps protect the environment by keeping the consumption of lubricants to a minimum.

Fields of Application

Combining a roller screw with a servo motor produces a mechatronic unit with the nominal force of a hydraulic cylinder. Ultra-high accuracy, positioning and flexibility as well as low energy consumption make the design perfect for use as a feed axis in modern servo presses, machine tools and injection molding machines.

With the introduction of its PLSA, Rexroth delivers custom-machined roller screws to users quickly and economically, making it easier than ever to replace existing roller and ball screws. For more information, click here .
