The BODAS DI4 is freely programmable and can be used universally in every cab.
OEM Off-Highway has announced its Top Ten New Products of 2016 and Bosch Rexroth’s BODAS DI4 made the list. The DI4, a robust and high-resolution color display, brings all new visualization and functionality to mobile working machines. It’s freely programmable and works universally in every cab – from fork lift trucks to large excavators.
OEM Off-Highway, the internationally recognized publication dedicated to the product development activities of heavy-duty on- and off-road equipment manufacturers, has selected the BODAS DI4 from Bosch Rexroth as one of the industry’s favorite new products for 2016. The honor is based on inquiries and page views by visitors to OEM Off-Highway’s online product database, the Component Directory, www.oemoffhighway.com/directory .
“The OEM Off-Highway Top Ten New Products award winners draw attention to the components and technologies that were the most popular during the research and development phase for upcoming project designs in the industry,” says Michelle Kopier, associate publisher of OEM Off-Highway magazine and OEMOffHighway.com. “These products were frequently searched, found and referenced throughout the year, causing significant bumps in their online traffic. That says a lot about which products and companies people are interested in and investigating for future reference.”
Rexroth’s BODAS DI4 has a robust and high-resolution color display and brings all-new visualization capabilities to mobile working machines. The DI4 is freely programmable and works universally in every cab – from fork lift trucks to large excavators. The display has a 7-inch screen (800x480 pixels) and enables direct connection of up to two video cameras, for example, a rear view camera and one to control the working space. The installation can be either free-standing or integrated in the dashboard and enables an alignment of the devices in 90° steps. The illumination of the integrated operating elements can be selected individually (color, intensity and day/night settings).
In addition to the two CAN bus interfaces, the DI4 has various analog inputs and outputs, as well as a USB interface for fast data exchange, depending on the model. In conjunction with the integrated BODAS-service communication interface, the DI4 serves as a central access point to the machine’s CAN bus network and allows full diagnostic and flash updates for the connected BODAS RC controllers.
The display also offers an optional touchscreen and Ethernet and Bluetooth interfaces. The DI4 fulfills the requirements for protection classes IP6KX and IPX5. Thanks to the overlay technique, various display functions and video images can be shown on a single display; this new, customizable overview also saves space and reduces costs.
The programming and design of the screens, as well as the implementation of the display and operating logic, is accomplished by means of CoDeSys V3.5 development tools.
The editorial team from OEM Off-Highway and OEMOffHighway.com compiled web page views from products featured in the online Component Directory over a 12-month period.* The result is the 2016 Top Ten New Products, a listing of the industry’s favorite products. Additional information on award recipients can be found in the November/December issue of OEM Off-Highway and online at OEMOffHighway.com/20844263 .

Since the European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC has come into effect in 29 December 2009, machine manufacturers have to comply with and therefore have to assess the risks resulting from their machinery. An important measure for risk reduction is functional safety, e.g. based on the harmonized standards IEC 62061 and ISO 13849. The new Rexroth joystick 4THEC5 SIL2 is a key component for advanced mobile working machines and offers a unique solution. The Rexroth device is fully SIL2/PL d capable including handgrip functions (on/off push buttons and rockers, proportional rollers). In addition, its design increases robustness, safety and user ergonomics.
