The capacity of the stadium is 52.960 seats, the costs were 96 million Euro. The grand opening of the stadium was in 1996 performed from Queen Beatrice with a large opening event. The Amsterdam ArenA is used as a multipurpose arena for events like football, concerts, etc. As one of the first, the stadium has a closable roof allowing for its use irrespective of the weather. This roof consists of a steel-glass construction and has an overall area of 33,625 m². Thereof, 26,028 m² can again be opened by means of two movable parts (in each case 40 x 118 m, 520 tons) in 20 minutes. The arena is a five-star stadium awarded by UEFA. The football club Ajax Amsterdam plays its home games in the stadium.
