Associate empowerment, customer-centricity, the latest assembly technologies, lean manufacturing practices, and responsibility to the community all contributed to the Assembly Plant of the Year award
The world-class plant was chosen for the 13th annual award in September for a robust combination of lean manufacturing principles, technological advances, environmental initiatives, employee training programs and community involvement. The plant assembles hydraulic pumps and motors and is driven by metrics to continually improve quality and productivity for customers. Over the past four years, they made significant advancements in key areas such as assembly technology and the lean logistics that support it, while doubling the size of the facility.
Located in the Upstate of South Carolina near Greenville, the Bosch Rexroth Fountain Inn plant has served the complete Americas region with Drive and Control Technology products and services for mobile hydraulics in mobile applications for 25 years.
Key Fountain Inn Products
The Fountain Inn campus produces axial piston pumps and motors used in both mobile and industrial hydraulic systems. Typical applications for these pumps and motors include drive and auxiliary motion control for tractors, harvesters, pavers, excavators, wheel loaders and skid-steer loaders. Recently, large hydraulic vane motors, used for oil and gas drilling applications, were added to the production portfolio.
Production processes at the Fountain Inn plant include high-precision component machining, heat treatment (hardening), assembly, functional testing and painting. The plant also supports the mobile aftermarket with remanufacturing, spare parts and service/warranty repairs.
At Bosch Rexroth we see continuous improvement as a basic leadership principle and not as a special program layered-over the existing leadership tasks. From this perspective, CIP is used to manage all aspects of our business from CNC machining to creation of purchase orders. We cannot imagine another way to run a production plant today. The key drivers of any CIP activity are always data and empowerment: data to show the opportunities and empowerment to bring all associates into the improvement process.
