99 drives, 60 channels, one CNC controller

CNC system solution IndraMotion MTX advanced: particularly suited to rotary transfer machines with up to 99 axes.

IndraMotion MTX from Rexroth – now even more powerful

and easier in engineering

In the new software version 14 VRS, the multi-core CNC system solution IndraMotion MTX advanced now supports the control of up to 99 axes in 60 channels with only one CNC controller. Open standards, software tools and function packages increase the engineering efficiency – even with complex machines. With Open Core Engineering, Rexroth also combines the previously seperate machine tool and IT worlds and allows machine manufacturers to configure customized software functions.

Production of increasingly complex geometries with lower tolerances in less time: productivity is a very important criterion for machine tool end users; however it is not the only one. Factors such as energy efficiency, machine safety, ease of use and integration into the IT world are getting more important. To stand out from the competition, machine manufacturers look for ways to differentiate themselves through independent software functions and provide the end user with additional benefits. Rexroth incorporated these requirements with the latest version of the IndraMotion MTX CNC system solution.

In the most powerful variant, IndraMotion MTX advanced, the CNC system now controls up to 99 axes. The controller can execute tasks in parallel in up to 60 channels. Even with the maximum number of axes, the multi-core processor CNC guarantees high performance and short cycle times. Thus, IndraMotion MTX is suitable, for instance, for complex rotary transfer machines with numerous workstations. The increased performance of the controller also reduces the system costs because additional hardware that was previously required is saved.

Open Core Engineering from Rexroth increases efficiency for the machine manufacturer throughout the entire engineering process. Software tools and function packages automate routine tasks. They replace time-consuming programming with simple parameterization for numerous tasks. Consistent use of open, cross-vendor standards make it a future proof system solution. In addition to PLC automation, Open Core Engineering creates a bridge to the IT world.

New degrees of freedom for individual software functions

This opens up new degrees of freedom for machine manufacturers to independently create individual software functions in high-level programming languages. These functions access the controller in real time via the interface technology of Open Core Interface. This technology is currently offered only by Rexroth and enables rapid networking of machines in industry 4.0 concepts. In addition, Open Core Interface allows for the seamless integration of smart phones and tablets in machine concepts to simplify operation. With application programs, otherwise known as "Apps", for these smart devices, service technicians can quickly perform diagnostics for the machines wirelessly and from anywhere.

Safety – from controllers to drives

In the area of machine safety, Rexroth offers additional ways to increase efficiency and availability. Extending the CNC system solution by adding the safety PLC SafeLogic and the "Safety Manager" function toolkit from the Open Core Engineering environment, reduces the time and effort involved in configuration and startup.

Changes in the process have no effect on the safety control. Thanks to the certified Safety on Board safety features integrated in the servo drives, the machine manufacturers can implement standardized safety measures with minimum time and effort.

Rexroth 4EE increases energy efficiency

Rexroth supports the user demand for higher energy efficiency with the software package IndraMotion MTX Efficiency Workbench. Machine manufacturers use it to analyze the duration and energy consumption of each machine movement. With the help of this database, you can optimize motion control with your CNC programming. This increases both the energy efficiency and productivity. Furthermore, Rexroth helps machine manufacturers take advantage of full the potential to increase energy efficiency. For this, the industry specialists use the universal Rexroth 4EE system. It combines an energy-efficient system design with optimized component efficiency as well as demand-oriented performance and energy recovery.

The five most expensive savings ideas for the maintenance of machinery and equipment

Machine downtime is always expensive, especially if a whole production line comes to a standstill as a result. For new machinery, the machine manufacturer is still liable, but afterwards the responsibility for maintenance lies solely with the user. Maintenance staff must constantly justify their "unproductive" costs and, hence, try to reduce them. However, some short-term saving ideas lead to nothing but higher total costs in the end. The following are the five most expensive, and unfortunately, not uncommon errors when it comes to machine maintenance.
