Automation experts all agree: in increasingly networked production environments to Industry 4.0, centralized intelligent axes are the future. Provided they can communicate via open interfaces with higher-level systems. The new Hydraulic Motion Control HMC from Rexroth meets this essential requirement. The future-proof 1-axis controller for hydraulic drives with multi-Ethernet and multi-encoder interfaces as well as PLC programming in accordance with IEC 61131-3 dovetails a wide variety of concepts.

Increasingly more machine manufacturers are using real-time Ethernet protocols for coordinated motions. Yet this is a decision they are not always free to make. Big end customers are more frequently specifying a preferred protocol in order to standardize the communication architecture. OEMs must therefore equip their series in parallel with different Ethernet variants. The HMC from Rexroth decidedly reduces the costs involved. The HMC's multi-Ethernet interface supports all standard protocols on one single piece of hardware: the automation bus Sercos, Ethernet/IP, PROFINET RT as well as EtherCAT and PROFIBUS. The HMC merges an IEC 61131-3-compliant programming language with a powerful motion control for hydraulic drives. As slave, it takes over the decentralized control of an axis where it decouples the hydraulics from the automation process.

The best-in-class hydraulic controller incorporates decades of application experience in the field of hydraulic axis control, which is depicted in ready-to-use software. The software automatically offsets the special characteristics of fluid technology. The pre-defined hydraulic functionalities encompass closed-loop position, pressure, force, and velocity control, alternating control, and open-loop controlled operation. IndraWorks software supports the commissioning, parameterization, and diagnosis of the HMC.

Rexroth is raising the bar in performance and communication for hydraulic actuators with its new generation of WRC-4X directional cartridge valves. The valves are more dynamic and consistently achieve flows that could previously only be achieved with the next highest available size. Integrated electronics (OBE) allow the new valve series to be networked via open interfaces with higher-level control units and Industry 4.0 environments even when under analog control. Reduced connection costs at increased availability: Rexroth harnesses the advantages of the IO-Link open standard also for hydraulic actuators and sensors. As of now, 4WRPEH proportional control valves and HEDE10 pressure switches are available with IO-Link interfaces. Connection is realized via the decentralized and quick IP67 I/O system S67E IO-Link Master. This offers users direct access to the field bus and all data provided by the actuator/sensor.
