Components tend to wear down over time, especially on older printing machines. Thus the risk of failure increases significantly. That can lead to high costs from resulting downtime. Replacing parts measure at specified intervals as a preventative is inefficient because it increases maintenance costs. The Interactive Device Diagnosis System (iDDS), a new software tool recently developed by Rexroth, provides an alternative. It uses available data from the printing machine’s drive and control system. The tool dynamically analyses trends and changes to process key performance indicators (KPI) and gives instructions regarding any maintenance needed.

Users expect their printing machines to provide increased availability and long life spans. Rexroth focused on these expectations when developing its Interactive Device Diagnosis System (iDDS). The software solution dynamically analyses trends and changes to a variety of KPIs such as capacity utilization and deviations without requiring additional sensors. The software then uses this data to generate instructions regarding current maintenance requirements. That gives maintenance staff plenty of time to schedule the necessary maintenance measures and work on the machines during production downtime. Software macros that can be configured according to the user’s needs let users customize the tool and adjust it to different process flows.

Data can be accessed locally or on a web server installed by the user for remote diagnosis – independent of the location. The data stays inside the user’s firewall the entire time. That prevents unauthorized access by third parties and guarantees a high degree of data security. In addition to installation and launching the system, Rexroth provides intensive system training. At the customer’s request a Rexroth automation specialist will also conduct the analysis via remote diagnosis and carry out maintenance measures.

The automatic system monitoring iDDS complements the Rexroth service package for printing machines. Within the scope of product overhaul activities, specialists worldwide replace specific packages of wearing parts in the drive system. That extends the machine’s life span. Rexroth service also schedules and conducts retrofit and updating measures for older machines.
