Design of ergonomic work stations made easy

The new ManModel

The new ManModel function in Rexroth's MTpro planning and design software makes designing ergonomic work stations easier through simulation.

In the modern production environment, productivity is based, above all, on motivated healthy workers and on production means that are efficient in terms of their operation and their cost. Ergonomic work stations play an especially important role in this context. To enable users to easily implement all relevant aspects already in the planning phase, Rexroth has developed a new function for its MTpro planning and design software: "ManModel" facilitates good ergonomic layout planning by providing models of the human body and by simulating fields of view and reach zones.

In the past, planning ergonomic work stations involved a lot of work. Measuring and comparison with drawing templates were used to customize chair and table heights, lighting layout and positioning of material supplies to the individual workers. This is where the MTpro planning and design software with the ManModel function provides a solution.

The designer prepares and simulates the planned work station system on a computer using MTpro. With ManModel he visualizes the worker's reach zones and ranges of vision, allowing him to check the ergonomics of the work station from the worker's perspective at the beginning of the planning process. He can determine the adjustment ranges for work tables and chairs as well as leg clearance in accordance with body height. This way, the planner can ensure that the layout of the work station equipment fits the workers, thereby preventing poor body posture and potential injury.

The planning and design software offers female and male models in short, medium and tall sizes. Designers can completely configure them in the seated, standing or walking positions and individually adjust the body joint angles.

ManModel can be used in the MTpro Layout Designer and it can be interfaced with Rexroth's Manual Production Systems and Basic Mechanical Elements components. Alternatively, work stations can be designed with the ManModel function in all popular CAD systems. The intuitive operating concept enables the user to create even complex designs and equipment layouts within a short period of time. To round out the system, the program offers automatic order list generation and cost calculation.
