“World team” for the Panama Canal

Two oceans, one canal, two major construction sites 80 kilometers apart, a “world team” of international specialists of Bosch Rexroth that has been installing the hydraulic equipment for the new locks of the Panama Canal since October 2014 and will take them into operation. The experts for hydraulic steel construction, hydraulics and control technology come from Russia, Mexico, Brazil, Panama, Colombia, Paraguay and the Czech Republic and are currently installing over 150 roller gates, which regulate the water flow at the locks with a width of 55 meters, a height of 30 meters, and a length of 427 meters (three at each major construction site. The majority of the planning comes from Germany and the Netherlands, the power units come from Bosch Rexroth plants in the Republic of Korea and the US, the hydraulic cylinders come from plants in China. “Since we always bundle the world's best specialists in their areas of expertise in one team and use our international production network, we can master such major projects and complete them sucessfully,” emphasizes Dr. Karl Tragl, Chairman of the Executive Board of Bosch Rexroth AG. The construction work of Bosch Rexroth is to be completed by the end of 2015 and the first marine vessels are to pass the new locks between the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean in early 2016.
