Reduce engineering time and paper waste with Rexroth IndraMotion

Printing machinery manufacturers often install a register control with its own hardware and software in their machines as an addition to the machine controls. Doing so makes the system more complex because it requires additional interfaces. This limits performance and calls for extensive programming, which manufacturers often end up outsourcing. With its new register control integrated into the IndraMotion system solution, Rexroth simplifies engineering activities for machine manufacturers. The register control also takes advantage of the high degree of precision and functionality of the Motion Control system and makes corrections even before the register has a chance to shift.

Engineering currently takes up most of the time spent on manufacturing printing machinery – throughout the entire process of project planning, construction, programming and start-up. Rexroth simplifies engineering requirements in many ways such as with the register control integrated into the IndraMotion system solution. This feature reduces the number of system interfaces and standardizes programming and parametrization for the entire printing machine automation process. The Motion Logic system by Rexroth handles register control without additional hardware thanks to pre-programmed PLC components from a licensed technology library. That enables OEMs to conduct engineering activities with their own resources and effectively apply their own process know-how.

Unlike conventional register controls that can only react on already occurred register errors, the Rexroth solution prevents register errors from occurring by feedforward techniques. It calculates all data such as cylinder positions, printing speed and acceleration ramps in advance and then links this pilot function to the register control. That minimizes waste and shortens set-up times, which increases effective machine availability.

The solution package for the Rexroth integrated register control includes various printing processes and types of print marks. In addition to the PLC function components integrated into the controls for intelligent control capability, the package also comes with a sensor and a standardized operating and diagnosis interface. The mark stream sensor has high resolution and detects a wide variety of colors even at low contrast levels. The sensor measures up to 12 marks at a maximum velocity of 1200m/min. Printers can configure and operate the register control via the central user interface or local HMIs (human-machine interfaces).
