Secure documentation, even in radio shadows

The measuring cordless nutrunner

The measuring cordless nutrunner documents the connections, even in radio shadows and during battery changes.

Reliable and ergonomic: measuring cordless nutrunner from Rexroth

Consistently seamless documentation for safety-relevant bolted connections is the core demand of the industry when it comes to assembly. To meet that demand, manufacturers have always had to use corded nutrunners, which significantly limit workers’ range of motion. That fact often presents a challenge at tightening positions that are difficult to access, such as in tight vehicle interiors, when working upside down, and in line production. By contrast, the measuring nutrunner from Rexroth cordlessly meets all process safety requirements. It documents the connections, even in radio shadows and during battery changes.

The measuring cordless nutrunner represents Rexroth’s reaction to industry demands. The drive and control specialist has completely integrated all control and power electronics into the cordless nutrunner. The local control monitors the torque and angle of turn of the connections during each process step and wirelessly sends the results to a receiving station. When radio shadows occur, it buffers the data and transmits it as soon as a network connection has been re-established. The results are saved, even while the battery is being changed. The measuring cordless nutrunner thereby meets the requirements of class A safety-critical connections according to VDI2862.

The cordless nutrunner seamlessly fits into the user’s existing infrastructures, either directly or via an additional controller. Both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WLAN standards are supported. The direct radio communication between the nutrunner and the access point eliminates the need for an additional controller.

The lightweight tool supports error-free work. A large color display on the nutrunner consistently, directly, and clearly displays the quality of the connections, independent of the worker’s position at the line and the radio connection: a green display background for correct results; a red display background for errors. A version with additional integrated scanner for workpiece identification is also available and ensures the correct allocation of nutrunner data. The cordless nutrunner covers the power spectrum to 50 Nm and was tested by Rexroth under full load conditions in endurance tests for up to 500,000 maintenance-free connections.
