With Sytronix FcP 5000 variable-speed pump drives for machine tools, Rexroth is cutting long-term operating expenses by up to 70 percent. Sold as a ready-to-install system in combination with the hydraulic power unit, the drive unites the dense power of hydraulics with the energy efficiency of electrics. The pre-parameterized drives simplify initial operation and enable system behavior that is identical to conventional drive solutions. At the same time, they considerably reduce median noise emissions.

The Sytronix FcP 5000 variable-speed pump drive, which consists of a standard asynchronous motor and a frequency converter, is used primarily in constant pressure systems. By providing demand-driven electricity volumes, it keeps pressure within the system constant. The pumps, which have been specially optimized for variable-speed operation, cover a wide range of speeds with high efficiency. The PGH-3X internal gear pump, for instance, reaches speeds of more than 3,000 revolutions per minute. In partial load operation, the speed can be reduced to as little as 100 revolutions per minute without any limitations in operating pressure, lowering the sound pressure level of the hydraulic power units by up to 20 dB(A). That means that the secondary measures that have been needed as noise protection to date can be eliminated in most cases. FcP 5000 solutions also reduce energy consumption in existing hydraulic systems.

Especially when it comes to the clamping and tensioning functions common among machine tools, the Sytronix FcP 5000 variable-speed pump drive prevents unnecessary energy use. During individual phases of the machine cycle, it reduces the motor speed according to demand. Reducing the median speed over the entire machine cycle reduces energy consumption by anywhere from 30 to 80 percent, depending on the cycle’s characteristics. That lowers the amount of heat put into the oil, so the expense associated with cooling the unit is considerably reduced as well.
