Rexroth Solutions for Sheet Metal Working: Convenient, Future-Proof Automation

Sheet Metal Working

Rexroth offers cross-technology solutions for sheet metal working – energy-efficient and future-proof.

Rexroth will be presenting future-proof automation solutions with high energy efficiency and productivity, and simplified engineering, at EuroBLECH 2010. The components, modules, and systems – all optimized to meet the special requirements of sheet metal working – seamlessly integrate to form cross-technology solutions through coordinated interfaces.

System for Higher Energy Efficiency

As manufacturer of all drive and control system solutions, Rexroth offers four levers for significantly improving energy efficiency as part of consistent application of the Rexroth for Energy Efficiency program (4EE). Components optimized for efficiency, on-demand power generation, energy recuperation, and energy system design systematically tap all areas of improvement. Variable-speed pump drives, for example, reduce hydraulic energy requirements by up to 50 percent. BlueHydraulics technology, which can be scaled in performance and functionality, lowers operating speeds during partial-load operation and cycle breaks, and already takes into account all particularities of fluid technology in the software. Electropneumatic pressure control valves from the ED product family divide the motion profile of cylinders into different phases, whereby each phase designates a specific pressure level based on requirements. Situational pressure control considerably reduces air consumption e.g. during unloaded return strokes.

Higher Productivity and Availability

Rexroth also combines the improved energy efficiency with better performance. Standardized modules for highly dynamic punching axes increase productivity to 4,000 double strokes per minute. Highly dynamic Rexroth valves reduce switching times by approximately 40 percent for this electrohydraulic solution for punching, notching, and perforating machines, cutting presses, hole and copy punching machines, automatic punching machines, slot and turret punching machines, and embossing machines with high stroke rates.

Standards-Compliant Safety

The manufacturer increases machine availability through certified safety functions ("Safety on Board") integrated in the IndraDrive servo drives. Unlike other concepts, in which the entire machine or complete modules must be de-energized, the operator only needs to activate the safety functions for the respective axes. The machine can then be restarted again. Rexroth also offers a standards-compliant solution with EC type examination based on EN693, EN289, and ISO13849 with the new M-module press control systems. The end-to-end safety concept in the base module enables a higher degree of freedom for customized solutions, with numerous expansion modules for additional functions.

Easy Engineering for Hardware and Software

The ease of application likewise minimizes engineering times. To this end, the NC-based Sequential Motion Control for drive-based motion-logic integration, offered as part of the IndraMotion for Metal Forming system solution, noticeably reduces the time required to commission and program multiple axes. Sequential Motion Control accelerates the implementation of revolving separators, feed applications, and handling portals as an alternative to pure PLC programming. In addition, Rexroth's Easy-2-Combine connection system greatly simplifies the engineering, assembly, and commissioning of complete handling systems. The program consists of grippers, mini sleds, rotary and linear modules with standardized mounting interfaces, and positive-fit connections. This allows pick & place, line, or XY/XYZ gantry jobs to be realized quickly, easily, and with high flexibility.

Cross-Technology Qualification

The practice-oriented, cross-technology training courses offered by Rexroth help machine manufacturers and users qualify their employees. In 2011, Rexroth's Drive & Control Academy will offer 150 courses on 400 dates in Germany alone. E-learning modules for basic hydraulics training, or the module for functional safety in accordance with DIN ISO 13849, supplement the program and are available at any time. The modules can also be combined with face-to-face training courses as part of blended learning. This approach allows each participant to learn at his or her own speed, which ensures that the content covered is absorbed and retained.
