Rexroth’s SYB 3.0 stage control technology:

For safety, ease of use, and high availability

The latest generation of Rexroth’s SYB 3.0 stage control systems combines innovation with over 30 years of experience in stage automation. The systems’ modular design increases investment security through high flexibility for all drive technologies and enables a subsequent, cost-efficient system design. The system architecture increases availability and utilizes cutting edge safety engineering technology. Integrated 3D simulation, various operating modes, and multiuser abilities considerably increase workflow efficiency for preparing and realizing performances.

The SYB 3.0’s modular design makes it suitable for everything from smaller studio theaters with few drives to the complete equipment for large understage/overstage machinery with up to 700 drives and 16 control panels. In addition, Rexroth offers a comprehensive product range of electric and hydraulic drives created in-house. The products’ modularity allows users to subsequently expand the system and to continue to use the parts already installed, thereby considerably reducing costs across the entire stage technology lifecycle. SYB 3.0 also incorporates light and sound engineering to additionally simplify the realization of complex processes.

Programming, operation, and diagnostics for all control technology aspects are performed using compact control panels that can be connected at different locations throughout the theater. SYB 3.0 allows several individuals to work on one or different performances simultaneously. Numerous functions increase workflow efficiency: for example, the auto-correct feature ensures the desired scenery positioning with different suspension configurations. Several other features such as scenery databases, fly loft management, flexible conversion structures, and scenery operating simplify the realization of complex processes.

Integrated 3D simulation of the overall plant realistically displays the programmed movements. Those planning aids also work beyond the theater on commercial laptops and desktop computers.

The system architecture guarantees high stage engineering availability. The oscilloscope function integrated into the axis processor for recording and analyzing dynamic data as well as an additional expert system with error analysis simplify error diagnosis and fault correction. Wear indicators display when tolerances are reached before failures occur. Users can access the status of the entire system at any time and view the necessary information for every function via the control panels.

SYB 3.0 offers a high security level – Security Integrity Level 3 (SIL3) – pursuant to EN61508 and additional national standards. Two axis processors continuously process sensor and drive data at the same time. A cross-check allows them to reliably detect computer errors, drive problems, or sensor technology issues. In addition, a collision assistant automatically synchronizes travel movement with the geometric data of stage-related equipment and scenery. The assistant provides warnings about impending collisions during programming and the travel in time to prevent them.

Rexroth increases investment security through long-term product and software maintenance. With customized services ranging from training to condition monitoring and remote diagnostics, Rexroth is a partner for stage automation throughout the entire lifecycle.
