Small and robust: compact pressure sensors up to 600 bar

New PR4 series 10 pressure sensors from Rexroth: only 55 mm long, they fulfill the IP67 and IP69K types of protection.

Rexroth's new generation of robust and precise pressure sensors

For fork lift trucks, telehandlers and other logistical vehicles, the trend is definitely moving toward more power in a smaller installation space. Rexroth is supporting this development with its new PR4 series 10 pressure sensors. In implement hydraulics and travel drives they cover measuring ranges of up to 600 bar with a length of just 55 mm. The sensors can be easily installed using a socket wrench with a tightening torque of up to 45 Nm.

The PR4 pressure sensors can be used universally in open and closed hydraulic circuits and deliver decisive information for energy-efficient power control. With three variants, the new series covers pressure ranges from 0 to 280, 0 to 420 and 0 to 600 bar. The pressure sensors can withstand pressure peaks of more than 130 percent of the nominal pressure; in the version for the highest pressure stage they can momentarily withstand up to 800 bar. Assembly with M14 or G1/4 threads is easy using a socket wrench with a high tightening torque of up to 45 Nm, as is often required with compact gearboxes, for example.

The sensors come from Bosch's large-scale production for the automobile division and are available long term. The hermetically sealed measuring channel guarantees high media resistance. They fulfill the IP67 and IP69K types of protection and offer high shock and vibration resistance. The total length is only 55 mm. The sensors are approved for an ambient temperature range of -40 to +100 °C. They can therefore also be placed in close proximity to the diesel engine. The permissible temperature range for the measured medium is -40 to +150 °C.

The measuring characteristic curve is linear. The ratiometric output signal covers the spectrum between 0.5 and 4.5 V, with a supply voltage of 5 V. A simple fault diagnosis can take place by checking this signal range. In the typical operating range for mobile working machines, the total accuracy of the PR4 pressure sensor is ≤ 1.1 percent of the nominal pressure over the entire pressure range during the complete service life. This accuracy improves the control quality of the hydraulic systems. The sensors fit seamlessly into the Rexroth modular system with mobile electronics and mobile hydraulics.

Intelligent hydraulics for increased availability

Connected hydraulics increase the availability of machinery and plants through condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. For this purpose, Rexroth offers scalable solutions, from individual units with local evaluation to the complete, cloud-based monitoring of large plants. Sensors measure all relevant operating conditions and software detects wear before it leads to failure. Retrofitting kits also economically integrate already installed plants into these concepts.
