SW machine for networked productivity

Two-spindle BA 322 by SW with integrated open automation by Bosch Rexroth

Satisfies all requirements on a future-proof capacity increase in series production: two-spindle BA 322 by SW with integrated open automation by Bosch Rexroth.

Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen relies on cross-technology automation by Bosch Rexroth

Modern operation based on smart devices, integrated simulation tools and connection to industry 4.0: These requirements are satisfied by Schwäbische Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH (SW) also thanks to cross-technology automation by Bosch Rexroth. In this connection, the manufacturer relies on the CNC system solution IndraMotion MTX with open interfaces. At the same time, SW increases the energy efficiency in the machining centers thanks to Sytronix variable speed pump drives for the hydraulics and reduces the total costs of ownership also for the new RSHP roller rail systems with a useful life prolonged by up to 35 percent.

In the automotive industry, the number of exhaust turbo-superchargers is currently increasing as the manufacturers use them to reduce the fuel consumption and exhaust emissions of the motors. With the BA 3 series, SW offers machining centers (BAZ) which are also designed for the highly precise 5-axis processing of compressor wheels for exhaust turbo-superchargers. With the two- and four-spindle BAZ, users are able to increase the quantities in a fast and cost-efficient way. During the “International Exhibition for Metalworking AMB 2016”, SW presented a BA 322 automated with different Rexroth technologies at the Rexroth booth and demonstrated amongst other things which networking options users can use already today.

Operating interface adjusts itself to the task

Operation is effected via the new multi-touch display of the drive and control manufacturer, which takes over the operating practice from smart phones and tablet PCs. It supports functions like swiping or zooming by means of two fingers. So the display does not need any hardware keys. The interface adjusts itself to the tasks of the logged on person in a context-oriented manner. While some few software keys are sufficient during serial production, it shows considerably extended menus for the set-up mode or for maintenance.

Faster conversion to new components thanks to simulation

The 3D online simulation functions integrated into the CNC system solution IndraMotion MTX advanced accelerate the creation and optimization of NC programs. From the program code, users create 3D raw part models. The dynamic 3D tool model automatically adjusts the simulation to changes from the tool list and the tool corrections. With the 3D removal simulation, users test and optimize the programming by means of a virtual machine. In this connection, the 3D collision monitoring simplifies the virtual infeed of a new work piece before the production on the real machine starts.

Open interface to industry 4.0

The manufacturer-independent standard interface OPC UA connects the machining center via the Data Analytics Server by Bosch to the industry 4.0 world. So SW satisfies the increasingly demanding requirements on the documentation and analysis of part data for the traceability. The data can be sent to cloud-based databases and be processed on the visualization PC of the control system in a free database.

Lower TCO thanks to longer useful life

In addition to hydraulic components, SW also uses roller rail systems by Rexroth. The newly developed infeed zone into the runner block of the roller rail systems RSHP does not load the cylinder rollers abruptly but increasingly. The result: clearly reduced pulsation in all three directions. This is one prerequisite for higher quality and surface quality of the work pieces. At the same time, RSHP offer a useful life prolonged by up to 35 percent and so further reduce the TCO of BA 322.
