Software Freedom Day: Software for all

Almost everyone uses it and it is appreciated by many: free software that you can simply download and use. A prominent example: the Linux operating system. At Software Freedom Day on September 17, hundreds of events worldwide are highlighting the significance of free software. "Freedom" not only refers to free use, but in particular to the transparency of the software too: every user can view the source code and has the flexibility to further develop their own functions. With these characteristics, open source software is quickly gaining significance in mechanical engineering. Bosch Rexroth supports this development: with the Open Core Interface for Drives technology interface, machine manufacturers can individually program application programs for the IndraDrive servo drives in IT high-level languages and deposit them on external devices with Linux. That way, users can create their own drive, process, diagnostics and user functions in their usual development environments.
