Increased productivity and product quality through linear motor-driven transfer systems

Pallet Booster

Bosch Rexroth will present the application solution for short cycle times for the first time at MOTEK 2016. The demonstrator consists of the new pallet booster, guide module and belt section.

Rexroth develops a new application solution for short cycle times with the pallet booster

  • Innovative pallet accelerator combines technical advantages
  • Precise, quick and flexible transportation by linear motors
  • Application-specific system selection from a single source

With a focus on higher assembly system productivity, Rexroth developed the application solution pallet booster WB2 to reduce cycle times. The booster lowers unproductive workpiece pallet changing times to a minimum: Used in combination with the Rexroth TS 2plus transfer system, it accelerates the transport and brings the products onto the same workpiece pallet for the next processing step. As a specialist for transfer systems, Rexroth now presents further solutions for the realization of shorter cycle times with the booster to complement the ActiveMover and Linear Motion System (LMS). The Rexroth specialists can therefore always tailor and offer the appropriate solution concept according to the project.

The new pallet booster WB2 is a modular supplement to the transfer system TS 2plus. Unproductive time for the transport between individual processing stations can be significantly reduced with the booster as it is up to ten times quicker than the standard speed, depending on the application, with accelerations of up to 3g. The booster is used in the process station area. The system allows for the consistent use of the workpiece pallets without adaption into the entire system and their takeover "on the fly" on linear motor-drive conveyor units. This reduces the cycle time, above all in systems where products must approach a high number of different process stations especially quickly and flexibly.

In addition to productivity, the pallet booster also increases the product quality due to its high repeat accuracy. The individual workpiece pallets are automatically positioned by a linear motor. Thanks to the flexible control, sequentially cycled travel, travel in a group and reversing is possible. The precise positioning is done without additional indexing, which means that positioning units and other handling system are not required. As a standardized and preconfigured assembly, the pallet accelerator is completely compatible with the TS 2plus and can also be easily retrofitted into the transfer system, which saves assembly time and costs.

At MOTEK 2016, the international specialist trade show for production and assembly automation, Rexroth will present the application solution using a demonstrator for the first time, which consists of a guide module, belt section and pallet booster. Users receive the booster tailored to their individual application conditions from the Rexroth project department.

Rexroth offers further alternative solutions with the ActiveMover transfer system and the Linear Motion System (LMS), which are specifically targeted towards short cycle times. The ActiveMover is a convincing linear motor-driven circulation system with the shortest change times of 0.1 s and accelerations of up to 4 g, which increases productivity in short-cycle applications. The complete system is suitable for the transport of delicate products up to 10 kg and wherever high precision is required. With the flexible LMS modular system, numerous solutions can be realized with loads of over 1000 kg and in demanding environments such as in a vacuum. Rexroth therefore has different solution variants in their portfolio depending on the application requirement in order to be able to offer the optimal system according to the project.

Rexroth takes users on a digital journey of Linear Motion Technology

Instead of the previously strictly separate work steps in the dimensioning, configuration, start-up, actual use and diagnosis of Linear Motion Systems, Bosch Rexroth shows with a trade fair exhibit as a study the advantages of a continuous digital journey through the entire life cycle. Here, software tools and all individual pieces of information accompany the components and systems of Linear Motion Technology. At the Automatica 2018 trade fair, Bosch Rexroth is using a multi-axis system with its own intelligence as an example to present the entire range of production-ready and close-to-production digital solutions with which design engineers and users can react to changing conditions more quickly and flexibly than ever before.
