German Design Award 2017 for the ActiveCockpit

German Design Award 2017 for the ActiveCockpit

User friendliness and transparency were the main focus when developing the ActiveCockpit software

Interactive communication platform from Bosch Rexroth receives prize for outstanding design quality

The German Design Council awards the producers and designers of innovative products and projects with the German Design Award each year. Its goal: to discover and present unique international design trends. The ActiveCockpit software from Bosch Rexroth with its clear and intuitive interface was awarded with the "Special Mention" in the human-machine interface category for its excellent product design. The ActiveCockpit interactive communication platform records, processes and visualizes manufacturing data in real time and displays it on a touchscreen or tablet.

The internationally staffed expert jury of the German Design Award 2017 awarded the ActiveCockpit interactive communication platform with the "Special Mention" for outstanding design quality. The competition has high standards when it comes to determining the prize winners: through the unique nomination process, only products and communication design achievements that demonstrably stand out due to their design quality are invited to submit.

ActiveCockpit: award winning, interactive and intuitive

The ActiveCockpit industrial software records, processes and visualizes manufacturing data in real time. In doing so, IT applications such as production planning, quality data management and e-mail dispatch are connected with software functions from machines and systems. Key figures are clearly presented and available in real time, for example on a large touch screen directly at the manufacturing line or an interactive tablet-PC on site. Through this, decisions and process optimizations are accelerated and productivity is increased.

When designing the software, the focus was on incorporating employees' experience in order create a good user experience. The Bosch Rexroth developers determined exactly what the users required through interviews and plant visits. The result is a clear, user-friendly interface. To achieve this, the software uses for instance simple operating elements that are familiar from smart devices or that allow for quick navigation between areas.

The German Design Award, which started in 2012, is one of the most recognized design competitions worldwide and is also highly regarded outside of specialist circles. The German Design Award is awarded by the German Design Council. The German Design Award 2017 jury is made up of experts from business, academia, science and the design industry. The German Design Award has grown significantly since its premiere in 2012: At that time, around 1,500 submissions were presented to the jury – this year it was over 4,000.

The award ceremony for the German Design Award 2017 will take place in Frankfurt on February 10, 2017.
