The Bosch plant in Pecinci has stabilized a complex painting process thanks to the Starter Kit with IoT Gateway and PPM. In doing this, impending malfunctions and maintenance situations are predicted in advance and productivity has increased.

Fast vertical networking of existing systems results in sustained improvement of processes: a practical example from the automotive industry.

The IoT Gateway from Bosch Rexroth is finding its way into the i4.0 practices of the automobile industry. In the Bosch plant in Pecinci, Serbia, it provides the data basis for everything from running processes and quality improvements to predictive maintenance. The Production Performance Manager (PPM) software from Bosch Software Innovations is used as an analysis tool. With the Starter Kit using both plug & play solutions, the production management team was able to stabilize even further a complex painting process for wiper arms quickly and easily. For this, the IoT Gateway collects sensor and control¬ data and sends it for targeted evaluation into the Bosch IoT cloud.

With the help of the project, the production management team in Pecinci was able to avoid downtimes and sustainably improve the productivity of the paint shop, which consists of ten individual stations. The data basis needed for this is provided by retroactively installed sensors and five different controller types, from which information is read. The Rexroth IoT Gateway collects all this information, including PLC blocks, inputs, markers and fault messages, without intervening in the automation logic.

For the evaluation of process-critical information, including moisture and reduced paint consumption, the IoT Gateway streams the collected data to a server hosted in Germany, where it is analyzed and compared with defined limit values using the PPM software. The technicians responsible in Pecinci continually optimize the equipment availability using these valuable insights. To ensure constant improvement in the product quality, a track & trace function is also planned, which will allow the wiper arms to be located within the plant and then conclusions to be drawn from the finished product about quality-related sub-processes.

High connectivity can also be seen at the Microsoft booth

For the purpose of data analysis, the IoT Gateway from Bosch Rexroth generally includes high connectivity. This applies to software installed "on premise" and cloud platforms, such as Bosch IoT cloud, Oracle IoT cloud or the most recent Microsoft Azure.

With the "Microsoft Azure Certified for IoT" certification, Bosch Rexroth will demonstrate the compatibility of the IoT Gateway with the Azure IoT hub at the Hannover Messe. At the Microsoft booth (hall 7, booth C40), both companies¬ will exhibit a use case for key data acquisition and analysis of electric motors and drives. This example clearly shows how fast users can use the scalable analysis¬ tools from Microsoft to optimize the value-added chain thanks to the direct cloud connection. Commissioning is greatly reduced because the user needs to select only the data to be sent in the Rexroth IoT Gateway.

In addition, visitors to the trade show can experience the IoT Gateway at the Bosch Rexroth booth (hall 23, booth C19), at the Bosch Industry 4.0 booth (hall 7, booth C26) as well as at Dassault Systèmes (hall 6, booth K30) on a machine from the American packaging manufacturer WestRock.
