Linear motion, short time to market

Whether electromechanical or electro-hydraulic: The ready-to-mount linear drives by Bosch Rexroth are fit for Industry 4.0 and meet the highest requirements regarding reliability, controllability, costs and space required.

Uniformly electrified, ready to mount and smart: stand-alone linear drives by Bosch Rexroth provide competitive advantages for machine manufacturers

  • Smart modular system with mechanical and hydraulic gears
  • New: compact, maintenance-free servo-hydraulic actuators (SHA)
  • Comprehensive drive concept simplifies hybrid drive concepts

Stand-alone linear axes are the trend. The combination of electrical drive unit and mechanical or hydraulic cylinder reduces installation space and engineering time and combines our specific professional knowledge in one system. With ready-to-mount and i4.0-enabled solution packages, Bosch Rexroth is in line with the current market requirements regarding electrification, digitalization and monitoring as well as condition-based maintenance. The uniform control and drive concept which is used in the different technologies serves as a basis for a short time to market and the economical implementation of hybrid solutions.

For their customer-specific solutions, machine manufacturers can optionally combine the control and drive system which consists of an IndraDrive C compact inverter and an IndraDyn S synchronous motor with mechanical or hydraulic gears and benefit from a compact, i4.0-enabled and, on request, ready-to-mount linear drive with IndraWorks engineering software.

In addition, the entire Open Core Engineering portfolio by Bosch Rexroth is available to shorten the engineering process and create partner solutions for new drive and energy concepts with the help of open interfaces, for example by model-based engineering, simulations or virtual commissioning using hardware in the loop.

Electromechanical cylinders EMC and EMC-HD

The electromechanical cylinders EMC and EMC-HD enable machine manufacturers to control quick and complex industrial processes with maximum forces of up to 290 kN in a simple way. As a mechanical gear a ball or planetary screw drive by Bosch Rexroth is used. The wide range of applications includes machine tools, transport and handling systems as well as servo presses.

The EMC with hygienic design can also be used in the food industry. With our free LinSelect selection tool, the EMC and EMC-HD drives as well as any other electromechanical linear system by Bosch Rexroth can be dimensioned quickly and intuitively before it is ordered.

Servo-hydraulic actuator SHA

With servo-hydraulic actuators (SHA), which are completely ready for installation and maintenance-free, Bosch Rexroth combines the benefits of a compact linear drive with the specific advantages of hydraulic systems regarding power, dynamics, robustness and energy efficiency. To meet the requirements regarding electrification and a short time to market, the SHA use the same drive and control concept as the EMC. Together with the directly connected hydraulic part, which consists of pump, control block and cylinder, an overall package with a closed hydraulic system and minimum compensation tank is created which fulfills the requirements.

SHA are completely aligned and tested, from the mains connection to the plunger – including the preliminary parameterization of the drive controller, firmware and technology function for separate force and position control. Integrated safety functions such as unintended start-up (STO) lead to a higher functional safety category. With little engineering effort, it can be increased to the maximum performance level by the use of valve technology. Optionally, Bosch Rexroth provides a software module for field data acquisition (FDA) as a basis for a condition monitoring system.

With maximum forces of up to 2500 kN, travel speeds of up to 2 m/s and strokes of up to 6 m, the SHA are particularly suited for presses and dosing systems but also for machine tools, transport or handling systems which are particularly demanding regarding performance.

Hybrid drive concepts, in compact design or as separate components

Since customers or machine manufacturers do not need to have in-depth knowledge about hydraulics and thanks to the control and drive concept which is the same for the different technologies, the SHA is also suitable for economical hybrid concepts with electrical power distribution, for example servo presses.

Other customer-specific options are provided by Bosch Rexroth with the SHA design “as separate components” where the control block is structurally separated from the cylinder or the drive unit by hose or pipe connections. In this way, the individual modules can be flexibly distributed in the system.
