Bosch Rexroth combines innovative system approaches with more efficient components

Harvesters, field sprayers, combines: New hydrostatic travel drive solutions from Bosch Rexroth reduce diesel consumption compared to existing solutions. In addition, the company has combined more efficient components with new, electronified system approaches and software packages. The ever-increasing electronification of the travel drives also forms the basis for assistance systems that provide relief to the driver and increase the safety of the vehicles.

With the newly developed electronic torque control for hydrostatic travel drives in agricultural and forestry machinery, Bosch Rexroth has decoupled the torque at the drive wheels from the diesel engine speed. The control strategy of the hydrostatic transmission implements the driver's intention, taking into account the limited input power. The diesel engine speed is reduced as much as possible considering the power requirements of the hydrostatics. Bosch Rexroth assigns the hydraulic functions their own layer in the controller. Vehicle manufacturers can therefore adapt the software to other machine sizes with a few parameter changes.

Bosch Rexroth has also analyzed the drive trains of numerous vehicles using big data methods and can thus improve the calculation of roll resistance.

Manufacturers of agricultural and forestry machinery can now integrate assistance systems common in the auto industry thanks to the electronification of the travel drives. For example, the HLB high level brake from Bosch Rexroth uses special control software to achieve maximum hydrostatic deceleration for maximum ease of use and safety. ASR prevents individual wheels from slipping, thereby increasing the level of safety.

Through in the software integrated efficiency maps of the A4VG pump series 35 and the A6V motors, always the best possible operating point of the drive train can be selected, depending on the actual load requirement. In this way, the efficiency of the hydrostatic powertrain will increase further and therefore the fuel consumption of the complete machine will decrease.

At the component level, the axial piston motors A6VM/E series 65 and 71 are re-engineered. Assisted by advanced simulation methods Bosch Rexroth reduces the oil flow resistance in the port and lens plate of the motors. As a result of their overall efficiency improvements. This leads to a reduced fuel consumption for example of the harvesting machine.

The modular HYDROTRAC GFT 8000 gear series combines two and three-stage planetary gearboxes with these axial piston motors to create an individually customizable drive package. The new assembly groups, which come in nine sizes, cover output torques up to 130 kNm in both open and closed circuits with their finely graduated gear ratios. The optional internal multi-disk brake meets high safety standards. It reduces the installation space required and reduces the weight by up to 75 percent in comparison to conventional mechanical brakes. Through the combination of HYDROTRAC GFT 8000 with the latest series of Rexroth fixed and variable motors, machine manufacturers achieve around 10 percent more power in the drive train.

The lower diesel engine speed and the new components from Bosch Rexroth reduce the overall noise emitted from vehicles, without the need for further structural soundproofing measures.

Greater availability of agricultural and forestry machinery thanks to smart servicing

As part of the electronification of mobile hydraulics, Bosch Rexroth is developing new, data-based services for all aspects of mobile working machines. The PredictDrivetrain service from Bosch Rexroth detects wear using operating and sensor data and is able to determine the remaining service life. Thus, downtimes for tractors, combine harvesters and other agricultural and forestry machinery in the field can be avoided without the conventional, pre-scheduled preventive maintenance intervals. The lean determination of operating data also serves as a basis for the application-oriented design of mechanical components using the NextGenSpec app without the danger of undersizing or oversizing. For the assembly of new vehicles, CalibrateHydraulics significantly reduces the commissioning effort with the online transfer of test bench data for components to the OEM.
