Complete traceability along the entire logistic chain

Intelligent actuators and modular software solutions create transparency and conserve resources

With intelligent, connected solutions for the entire material flow from raw materials production and transport to intralogistics including handling within production lines, Bosch and Bosch Rexroth are unlocking the potential of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the factory of the future. The solutions involving a wide range of technologies link together software, decentralized intelligence and automation, resulting in transparent logistics process which help to conserve resources along the entire value creation chain.

New degrees of freedom with ctrlX AUTOMATION

Real production processes can already be tracked and traced digitally in a highly effective manner. The practical challenge lies in connecting automation to IT systems. Handling systems based on the new ctrlX AUTOMATION platform from Bosch Rexroth make this process easier. For the first time ever, the modern software architecture uses app technology for handling systems which reduces the engineering outlay by up to 50 percent. ctrlX AUTOMATION can be programmed in virtually any language and supports more than 30 IT standards and protocols.

Automation via Plug & Go with the ActiveShuttle

Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) such as the ActiveShuttle take care of the internal transport of goods. The ActiveShuttle Management System (AMS) is the heart of the overall system and independently creates dynamic maps of the area of operation. The control software independently detects changes in the infrastructure, automatically calculates the optimal alternative route and communicates with other vehicles in the fleet. Through its networking with the production assistants APAS and the intelligent assembly workstation ActiveAssist on the one hand and merchandise management and production systems on the other, assembly and logistics are further linked - for an optimized value stream with autonomous systems, shorter material ranges and lower inventories.

More flexibility and usability for mobile robots

The Locator from Bosch Rexroth is a software component for the reliable positioning and orientation of a wide range of vehicle types in a variety of changing environments.

This is made possible by a high-performance algorithm that automatically detects and maps the natural environment using a laser sensor on the vehicle. Bosch Rexroth thus provides a key technology and resolves the challenge of localizing your mobile robots with maximum flexibility and usability. The Locator is in use in a range of products including Bosch Rexroth’s ActiveShuttle.

Easier implementation of multi-camera system

For mobile machines in the off-highway field, Bosch is making it easier to adapt the multi-camera system to different customer applications. As a result, service technicians can implement the cameras in less than 25 minutes, even for different vehicle types. Five handy markers which can be rolled together, a measuring tape and a service PC with the installed application tool are all that is needed for the process. A quick and simple application via quick setup or a guided dialog for example is possible with the help of the application tool. As a result, the service technicians’ preferences and level of experience can be taken into account in an optimum manner. The tool also offers other options such as diagnostics for troubleshooting, software updates or additional individual settings.

Electric hydraulics paves the way for the IoT

Rexroth is paving the way for assistance systems which increase productivity in mobile machines such as forklifts and industrial trucks – with connected electro-hydraulic solutions for drive and work hydraulics systems. Users simply integrate these vehicles into their IoT solutions. IT systems access the individual actuators’ operating data directly. This allows for example predictive maintenance concepts or new, use-dependent business models.

Modular software creates transparency

On the IoT side, NEXEED – the software solutions for manufacturing and logistics from Bosch Connected Industry – covers the entire logistics chain. The Stock Management application from the Nexeed Industrial Application System digitalizes the internal flow of materials. The software records the position and quantity of materials in real time and makes supermarkets intelligent: all movements of materials are automatically recorded and posted using RFID, barcode and/or sensor solutions. Nexeed Intralogistics Execution makes the route from the point at which materials are taken out of the warehouse until the point of use in manufacturing transparent in real time: the Transport Management sub-solution plans and optimizes transport within companies. With Fleet Analytics, the use of AGV fleets can be perfected. On the basis of current and past values, all the positions, movements, statuses, bottlenecks and danger spots of AGVs and other intralogistic vehicles can be analyzed at a glance in real time. On this basis, steps can be taken to ensure optimum use of AGV capacity.

Nexeed Track and Trace digitalizes load carriers in a plant and even beyond plant boundaries. The containers equipped with long-lasting sensors can be connected to the supply chain, as a result of which not only the loss rate but also the search, posting or inventory outlay can be reduced considerably. Further-reaching analytics also allows the evaluation of tracking data regarding the flow of materials and site performance.

Sense, connect, detect: The new sensor component for the factory of the future

Sensors are the sensory organs of the Factory of the Future, the data that they collect are the raw material for continuous process improvement and equipment effectiveness. But how can data be collected for the many upcoming IoT projects at a reasonable cost? For example, with the SCD sensor (Sense Connect Detect), in the development of which Bosch's expertise in sensor production and Bosch Rexroth's automation experience have been incorporated. The SCD can be easily attached to the desired component and records, visualizes and stores data quickly and without programming effort.
