The titan of surface mining

Komatsu PC8000

It weighs 800 tons, has 4,000 drive horse power and if its boom is completely extended with the bucket, then it arrives at the height of an eight story apartment building: The PC8000 of Komatsu is a titan amongst excavators. The hydraulics excavator, most successful in its class worldwide, operates predominantly in South America, Canada and Australia. There, it produces coal, precious metals and diamonds. In June 2013, the hundredth PC8000 was already taken into operation ‒ for a special machine, an impressive number.

Rexroth provides the operating and the traction hydraulics for the excavator, amongst others, from the German plants in Lohr and Ausgsfeld. The biggest challenge for the engineers of Bosch Rexroth was the layout of the system for the hydraulic oil with a total production volume of 11,500 liters per minute. Eight pumps now take over this task.
