SafeMotion for cabinet free drive technology

Cabinet free drives IndraDrive Mi from Rexroth combine the advantages of decentralized drive technology with safe motion.

IndraDrive Mi from Rexroth enables modular machines with extensive safety features

The advanced cabinet free drives IndraDrive Mi with SafeMotion and Safe Torque Off make numerous certified functions for safe motion available – with and without encoder signals. For log backup, IndraDrive Mi uses the safety standard CIP Safety on Sercos. Along with the Multi-Ethernet interface for all common protocols on a single hardware, IndraDrive Mi expands the degree of freedom for a complete modularization.

The consistent modularization of machine concepts often encounters purely practical obstacles. Precisely in cases of machine safety, machinery manufacturers have until recently needed to put centralized solutions for machine safety into place. With the decentralized drive technology, IndraDrive Mi Rexroth removes these obstacles.

With Safety on Board, Rexroth provides machinery manufacturers with extensive safety features for cabinet free drives. Along with Safe Torque Off, the SafeMotion option covers certified functions for safe motion.

The safety functions without an encoder, such as SS1, SS1-ES or STO, are certified with Cat 4 PL e according to EN ISO 13849-1 and SIL 3 according to EN 62061. In addition, IndraDrive Mi includes a variety of safety functions with encoder feedback, such as SS2, SOS, SLS, SMS, SMD, SLI and SDI. They correspond to Cat 3 PL d according to EN ISO 13849-1 and SIL 2 according to EN 62061.

For log backup, IndraDrive Mi uses the safety standard CIP Safety on Sercos. The signals are simply clocked in real-time along with the standard data of the automation bus Sercos. The integration of drive, peripheral and safety bus as well as Standard-Ethernet in a single network simplifies handling and reduces hardware and installation costs. Along with the automation bus Sercos, the Multi-Ethernet interface of the drives also supports all of the common Ethernet-based protocols, such as ProfiNet, EtherNet/IP and EtherCAT, all on one piece of Hardware. It is also possible to establish a connection to Profibus via Gateway.

With the safety function Safe Torque Off, IndraDrive Mi also offers the opportunity to create different safety zones within a drive chain, which the user can activate separately. During manual intervention, it is sufficient to deactivate the corresponding safety zone. This simplifies commissioning and shortens the time until the machine restarts when eliminating interferences.

The cabinet free drive technology IndraDrive Mi reduces cabling costs, cabinet volume and the necessary cabinet cooling by up to 90 percent each, compared to conventional drives.

Intelligent hydraulics for increased availability

Connected hydraulics increase the availability of machinery and plants through condition monitoring and predictive maintenance. For this purpose, Rexroth offers scalable solutions, from individual units with local evaluation to the complete, cloud-based monitoring of large plants. Sensors measure all relevant operating conditions and software detects wear before it leads to failure. Retrofitting kits also economically integrate already installed plants into these concepts.
