Operating handling systems by means of smart devices

Operating complete machines with a finger swipe: In future, Rexroth IndraMotion optionally with operation-app for Google Android devices

Rexroth system solution IndraMotion for Handling will come with operation-app for Google Android in future

Rexroth is now transferring the operating comfort of apps for smart devices to the automation world as standard. From the 1st quarter of 2014 on the Drive and Control specialist will deliver the latest version of the system solution IndraMotion for Handling optionally with an additional operation-app. As a result, users can operate their machines using tablet PCs with the operating system Google Android. Moreover, Rexroth allows machine manufacturers and system integrators to write their own apps for automation.

In private life and business applications alike, apps for smart devices are increasingly simplifying operations through intuitive gesture control. Users of the system solution IndraMotion for Handling can now benefit from these advantages when operating handling systems. The operation-app offers all functions for operation and diagnostics of complete machines by means of smart devices and complements user interfaces for industrial control panels.

Apart from the operation-app, machine manufacturers can also create their own apps for automation with Rexroth controls. The new Open Core Interface allows users to easily access the control with more than 500 functions.

This interface technology supports the creation of native apps in the target platforms Apple iOS and Google Android. The apps run completely on the individual terminals, thus sparing the resources of the control. For machine manufacturers and system integrators this opens up new degrees of freedom in differentiating from the competition through own user interfaces and visualizations.

Software drives innovation

Vertical and horizontal connectivity, digital engineering, economic production of very small batch sizes – without software, these core characteristics of Industry 4.0 would be inconceivable. Even today, software contributes a great deal to the added value created by machines, while in the factory of the future it supplies the necessary intelligence for modular, mobile and connected production components. Using its Connected Automation portfolio, Bosch Rexroth will be demonstrating how state-of-the-art software affects competitiveness and time-to-market at the SPS IPC Drives.
