Lean production – for greater productivity and shorter throughput times

The constantly growing cost pressure makes it necessary to continually increase productivity in manufacturing. One central aspect is the detection and avoidance of waste (Muda). Bosch Rexroth’s broad range of prodcuts provides you with first-rate modules for realizing leaner production processes. You only produce what the customer needs – just in time and according to the zero-defect principle.

The seven types of waste

Waste refers to all process steps that do not directly contribute to adding value. This waste should be avoided be continually reduced, with the aim of creating virtually waste-free production. In order to achieve this, the causes of waste must be identified and eliminated. This constitutes a continuous improvement process (Kaizen) at all levels of the company.

Overproduction

More has been produced than the customer ordered. This requires additional warehousing and thus adds costs.

Superfluous movements

Relatively long distances for the procurement of materials or tools.

Waiting times

Waiting for materials or the end of the process means that the employee is tied up in the meantime and is not contributing to value creation.

Transports

Production above and beyond the required standards means more work needs to be invested than that which is required for fulfilling the function.

Over processing

Production above and beyond the required standards means more work needs to be invested than that which is required for fulfilling the function.

Stocks

High material stocks entail high capital costs. While stocks provide a sense of security, they also make the product more expensive.

Faults

Parts that are not in a proper condition entail reworking and sorting. This results in additional costs.
