The “Spotlight On New Technology® Award" from the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC 2022) recognizes the Subsea Valve Actuator SVA R2 as a disruptive innovation of Bosch Rexroth for a quantum leap in minimizing the carbon footprint of subsea oil and gas production. It can replace currently used hydraulics completely, increasing the energy efficiency, and reducing environmental risks for sensitive subsea ecosystems. The SVA R2 fits in the envelope of hydraulic cylinders in existing use, offers field-proven safety, open interfaces and low voltage supply. Qualified for up to 4,000 m water depth, the SVA R2 reduces CAPEX and OPEX in existing and new subsea installations.

The disruptive innovation is helping to significantly reduce not only CO₂ emissions from process systems but also environmental risks. The world’s smallest electric subsea valve actuator with a safety spring

At Hannover Messe, Bosch Rexroth will present a disruptive innovation for electrically actuating valves in the subsea process industry. The new SVA R2 Subsea Valve Actuator is the world’s first electric actuator that can replace conventional hydraulic cylinders with field-proven safety technology and without taking up additional space. The integrated electric controller offers precise motion control. Thanks to condition monitoring and a safety spring, the SVA R2 satisfies Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 in accordance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511. The use of internationally standardized interfaces throughout means even more standardization in the subsea process industry. The actuator minimizes energy consumption and is geared toward delicate ecosystems. At the same time, the installation and operating costs are reduced.

Subsea Valve Actuator certified for Safety Integrity Level 3

The new concept for Subsea Valve Actuators (SVA) from Bosch Rexroth has been certified by DNV GL for application in safety systems with up to Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 3 requirements. The SVA is a self-contained actuator for opening and closing process valves in the deep sea at depths down to 3000 meters and deeper. The system consists of an electrically controlled drive with a hydrostatic transmission, which saves up to 75% of the energy required compared to a conventional electro-mechanical axis.
