Retractable roof systems: Bosch Rexroth puts architecture in motion

Modern architecture is often multi-functional: Stadiums and multi purpose arenas, for instance, must be flexible and allow for a variety of uses - from soccer matches to concerts and other events. In realizing such projects, architects and engineers must strive to conserve resources and satisfy high safety and design standards. Bosch Rexroth has ample experience in the use of electro-mechanical and hydraulic control and drive systems for retractable roof systems.

Some examples

One of the structures put into motion by Bosch Rexroth is the south stand at the Veltins Arena, home of Schalke 04. The stand is equipped with a hydraulic drive which allows it to be moved as necessary in order to reconfigure the arena as needed. The Caja Mágica tennis stadium in Madrid has a series of retractable roofs, so that, with a simple push of a button, the three open air courts can be transformed into covered arenas for other events. The Amsterdam ArenA features a sliding roof realized with our solutions, and in cooperation with the University of Stuttgart, we have developed the first-ever adaptive shell structure. Moreover, Bosch Rexroth is involved in research activities, working for instance on vibration dampening for bridges.
