OverviewI’m Lorena, I’m 22 and I come from a small village near the Bosch Rexroth headquarters in Lohr am Main. I’ve been studying economics at the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg since October 2017. I’m currently completing a six-month internship in service project purchasing for Germany at Bosch Rexroth in Lohr am Main. I realized early on during my vocational training that I would like to go into the area of procurement. I have already completed a three-month internship in the scheduling department at Rexroth. My current employment in project purchasing allows me to apply the theory I have learned in the lecture theater. For example, I have been able to experience much of the “Procurement, production, and logistics” module in practice in my current position.
“When you move, you win. So move with us.” – Over 31,000 associates worldwide work each day to ensure that Rexroth is one of the leading companies for drive and control technology. If you’re looking to gain international experience, Rexroth is the place to come. With locations in over 80 countries and customers and suppliers all over the world, Bosch Rexroth is well positioned as a global player. There are thus plenty of opportunities to put your knowledge of foreign languages to use and expand your international horizons. You get to fully experience the world of work and make an active contribution in your team during your studies.
Weekly get-togethers in a pub provide an opportunity to meet up with other students in Lohr am Main, enabling you to share experiences and form friendships with other interns and student employees. There are also various leisure activities on offer, such as volleyball, football, yoga, and gymnastics.
I felt included in my team straight away. As the service plant is relatively small, with approximately 150 associates, the atmosphere here is informal, regardless of whether you work in the office or in the workshop. As a rule, associates here call each other by their first names, which contributes to a positive working atmosphere and makes the hierarchies in the company seem flatter. Interaction among colleagues is always very helpful, collegial, and friendly, which is really important as the various interfaces work closely together. For example, we work closely with scheduling and the field service areas.
I mainly work in the SAP system, for example, to send requests to suppliers, enter quotations, create purchasing info records for materials and, finally, place orders.
I also use Excel in project work, for example, to create the Decision Approval Sheet or DAS, a quotation comparison tool which you can use to compare suppliers according to different criteria for a project. I then prepare an award protocol and am allowed to take part in contract awarding meetings between Bosch Rexroth associates from the purchasing department and suppliers. For example, one of the projects in which I was involved was the renewal of a hydraulics room in a steel works.
For me, the time was more than an internship. Overall, I have developed both professionally and personally in the six months I spent at Bosch Rexroth. Fully in line with the motto “WE MOVE. YOU WIN”, I received considerable support from my department, but I was also continuously challenged with exciting tasks. I noticed that the associates are really passionate about giving students the opportunity to gain their first professional experience and passing on their knowledge. Moreover, in service, I was able to gain insights into other departments such as goods receipt, field service, and the commercial order processing of repairs.
Following my time in Lohr am Main, I was also given the opportunity to complete a two-month placement abroad in project purchasing at Bosch Rexroth Sweden in Mellansel. One of my tasks there will be to transfer standard connecting elements from local to strategic suppliers.
