Tech Podcast: Intralogistics | Mobile Robotics - How does laser localisation work?

The Tech Podcast delves deeper into the topic of laser localisation. Jörg Heckel and his team have developed the ROKIT Locator. In the interview, he explains how the software component enables driverless transport systems (AGVs) such as Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) to reliably determine their position and orientation.

Interview partner Jörg Heckel

"Laser SLAM for the end user " - in the podcast we learn how Bosch Rexroth is taking driverless transport systems to the next level.

Laser localisation for locating and determining the position of automated vehicles has been around for a long time. But with their product, Jörg Heckel and his team have managed to simplify this technology so that an end user can use it without much prior knowledge - one-click mapping, in other words. In the podcast conversation, Jörg Heckel provides insights into the development of this technology and how a complex process has been automated so that the user does not have to worry about creating and updating the maps themselves.

In addition, Jörg Heckel explains how an AGV or AMR creates this map - to do this, the area to be farmed only has to be driven over manually once. The innovative SLAM algorithm from Bosch Rexroth Research has managed to solve the contradiction between map creation and simultaneous localisation. Jörg Heckel provides insights into how exactly this works, how the maps constantly update themselves and how the driverless transport systems exchange map information with each other. Finally, the status quo and the future of driverless transport systems are discussed - so if you want to actively shape the factory of the future, you should definitely listen in.
