Tech Podcast: Smart MechatroniX transformation of linear technology

The latest episode of our Tech Podcast is about the transformation of linear technology. Daniel Bauer explains how Smart MechatroniX offers added value for line builders and integrators thanks to simple engineering and fast commissioning. With subsystems that can be quickly integrated and adapted, Bosch Rexroth is making the linear robot ready for the factory of the future.

Daniel Bauer: Smart MechatroniX

"Linear robots rethought" - in the podcast we find out how Bosch Rexroth is leading linear technology into the digital age.

With SmartMechatroniX, Bosch Rexroth is expanding its best-in-class components in linear technology to include smart solutions. Daniel Bauer is the Product Owner here and is responsible for product management, product vision and development for smart mechatronic subsystems, the so-called Smart Function Kits. In the latest episode of our tech podcast, Bauer tells us how he and his team are taking mechatronics to a new level thanks to the latest automation technologies and software.

Where does this system idea come from and what advantages does it offer machine builders? For Daniel Bauer and his customers, offering a subsystem as opposed to individual components is a win-win situation - Bosch Rexroth does its part with many years of expertise in mechatronics and supplies a pre-configured subsystem; the machine builder can quickly integrate this smart package into his machine and thus concentrate on his own expertise. But how do mechanics and drive technology actually become smart? In the interview, Daniel Bauer provides insights into features such as the Wizard, which reduces the entire commissioning process to just a few hours - entirely in the spirit of Plug & Produce.

In addition, this podcast episode deals with a concrete application using the handling kit as an example. Daniel Bauer explains how this multi-axis system is easy to design, arrives at the customer's site pre-configured and is commissioned within a very short time. The situation is similar with the kit for joining and pressing - the software offers ready-made modules such as "joining on force" as well as evaluation elements that ensure process transparency. The integration of the software into the end user's user interface is just as much a topic as future application possibilities and digital business models.
