Increasing energy efficiency in folding presses

Initial Situation

Folding presses correspond to the traditional automation approach: A central unit with fixed displacement pump, as well as two control manifolds with control valves ensure powerful and precise movements. The goal was to improve energy efficiency with an auxiliary process time of 20 percent.

The Rexroth 4EE Solution

Two Sytronix SvP 7000 servo drives operate two fixed displacement pumps with variable speed and lower power consumption as needed during the auxiliary process times. As the axes are now only controlled when in drive mode, the control valves can be omitted.

The result

Even though auxiliary process times only account for 20 percent of the cycle, the automation was able to realize energy savings of 43 percent. At the same time, average noise emissions have been reduced by over 10 percent.
