Unlocking innovation at the Customer and Innovation Center in Ulm

All the expertise you need, at one site

Our Customer and Innovation Center in Ulm now brings together all the company’s technological expertise in factory automation, industrial hydraulics, and mobile machines.

CU.BE

The newest building at the Customer and Innovation Center in Ulm reflects our drive to create a customer-focused experience, customer-facing solutions, and a space where you can come face-to-face with current and future innovations. Named CU.BE, which stands for CU stomer BE nefits, the new building is the heart of networked, boundary-crossing collaboration with our customers, users and partners. Here we exchange ideas face-to-face, shaping innovations and customized solutions that are always focused on practical customer benefits.

The Innovation Lab

The second building at the Innovation Center complements key development activities with projects focusing on software or a range of technologies. By working closely together from the outset, we’re able to rapidly develop holistic, innovative, customer-facing solutions.

Disruptive developments start with minimum viable products (MVP), which users can provide immediate feedback on, in order that their feedback can be incorporated into the functionalities. Prototypes and demonstrators then enable developers and customers to test the actual functions with current products at an early stage. This means that we can swiftly develop innovative new solutions, which focus on the needs of our customers.

The Model Factory at Ulm

The Model Factory

Our vision of the Factory of the Future is brought to life in the Model Factory, also housed within CU.BE. Using specific use cases and real production scenarios, including intralogistics, we showcase our powerful, yet workable, portfolio – to give you a real sense of what manufacturing will look like in the future. The Model Factory provides a complete digital twin, so partners and customers can carry out tests in virtual form too.

The TechPark

Focusing on mobile applications, the TechPark has three functions; TechPark Training, TechPark Off-highway terrain and a location for events. The 10,000 sqm outdoor area serves as a high-performance test bench dedicated to electrification, workshops for retrofitting mobile machines, and a training center, as well as a test track and area where typical work tasks can be carried out.

Sustainability

Sustainability

A key aim of the Innovation Lab is to develop solutions which allow customers and users to improve their energy efficiency and conserve resources. Working closely with our customers, we are driving forward the electrification of mobile machines. The buildings at Ulm have low-CO₂ supply, a photovoltaic system on the green roof and wall panels made of renewable building materials.

Digitalization

Digitalization

Digitalization an important focus for our developers at the Innovation Lab. We’re driving forward the electrification and digitalization of hydraulic solutions to further increase the energy efficiency and productivity of fluid technology. The Model Factory is completely digitalized and has digital twins, not just for the individual solutions but for the production lines too. At our new center in Ulm, we’re able to install new technologies in real vehicles and optimize them together with OEMs.

Simplicity

Simplicity

In the Model Factory, we make its plug & produce promise for all technologies a reality. Components, modules, subsystems and system solutions identify themselves, recognize their tasks and are ready for use at the touch of a button. This applies to electric drives and control units just as it does to industrial hydraulics or linear motion technology and intralogistics.

Robotics

Robotics

Together with our customers, we are currently working on the next generation of robotics as part of an international project. A key area of robotics is the automation of logistics and handling tasks, paying particular attention to the collaborative systems trend. The aim is to use robots for various tasks without programming and to ensure work safety in all situations.

AI & data analytics

AI & data analytics

Artificial Intelligence and data analytics are the key and cross-sectional technologies of the future. In Ulm, this technology is being further developed on an ongoing basis. The focus here is very much user-centric. In welding technology for example, we use Artificial Intelligence for the in-situ monitoring of welding procedures and adaptive control in conjunction with a cloud connection.

Services

Services

Services, including maintenance and servicing, have a huge impact on the performance and cost-effectiveness of machines. So, in Ulm, our service experts are exploring the growing potential of digital services – the customer touchpoints of the future.
