Taking talent to the next level

Our vision for future factories is already opening up a world of possibilities for our customers. But in order to create the factory automation solutions of the future, a diverse range of talented individuals with a wide range of skills is needed. At Bosch Rexroth, we’ve been investigating what such people are looking for in their career, as we seek to attract the brightest minds to help us bring our vision for factory automation to life.

In future factories, the walls, the floor and the ceiling will be fixed, but everything else will be mobile. Modular assembly lines and machines will move around, reorganizing themselves into new lines for different purposes, while AMRs deliver goods to the production line. They’ll communicate wirelessly with each other via 5G, and they’ll be powered through the floor via an inductive charging system.

“At the heart of our drive to create the optimum factory automation solutions is a desire to meet the needs of our manufacturing customers, and the needs of their own customers in turn. It’s about improving processes, making factories more efficient, and meeting the demands of modern-day manufacturing, such as small-batch production”, explains Enno Scharphuis, Senior Vice President of Assembly Technology & Leader of the Factory Automation Project.

It’s a bold vision, but one that we’ve been busily working on for some time. Already, we’ve created future-facing factory automation solutions that are available and being used by customers around the world. Their feedback tells us we’re on the right track. But we want to continue to grow and develop our factory automation portfolio, and to do this, we’re expanding our talented factory automation teams in Europe, North America and Asia.

Engineering future factories

“As you’d imagine, software engineers play a crucial role in our industrial automation teams, so we’ve been finding out what this key group of specialists is looking for in their career and how we become more attractive as an employer. In order to attract the best candidates to our organization, it’s important that we consider not just what they can offer us, but what we can give them. It’s about creating a mutually rewarding long-term relationship in which people can thrive and be the best version of themselves. When our people are given the right conditions to perform to the best of their abilities, our company also prospers”, explains Dirk Deuster, Senior Vice President Global Human Resources.

Bosch Rexroth employees
I’ve worked at Bosch Rexroth for more than thirteen years. Up until fairly recently, I was a software engineer, but now I’ve switched to a completely different field and work as a project manager for our new Customer and Innovation Centre in Ulm. That’s one of the great things about working at Bosch Rexroth – there are so many opportunities for personal and professional development. In my current role, I’m responsible for events, customer visits and the technical equipment. I was even involved in the concept development. It’s a really nice work environment and the team in Ulm are like a second family.

Sebastian Krauskopf is Lead Software Architect for our new ctrlX AUTOMATION platform. Here, he explains what his job entails and why he enjoys working at Bosch Rexroth.

Can you tell us about your job role?

I work in the development team of the Automation & Electrification Solutions area. Our mission is to provide innovative equipment, software and solutions for manufacturing, machines and factory automation.

How long have you worked at Bosch Rexroth?

I've been with Bosch Rexroth since 2007 and I’m still thrilled about the constant flow of exciting topics to work on.

What does your typical working day look like?

It’s my job to continuously develop and improve our product platform and to ensure conceptual integrity throughout the lifecycle. So it’s a lot about deriving technical concepts and making design decisions, for which I’m in constant communication with the development teams, customers and other stakeholders.

What do you enjoy most about your job role?

It's the range of activities that excites me. Being involved in product strategy, experimenting with new technologies, diving into technical concepts, working with the teams, talking to customers, balancing interests, pushing software development processes. And it's great to see when all the bits and pieces fit together and our customers give enthusiastic feedback.

What do you like most about working for Bosch Rexroth?

We’re a pretty big but awesome team. And everyone is really enthusiastic about creating the best possible products and pushing in the same direction. That's highly motivating and also a lot of fun.

Can you tell us about any training or development opportunities you’ve had at Bosch Rexroth?

I’ve had the chance to participate in several programs to develop myself. For example, a two-year educational program to become a Bosch Certified Software Architect, which involved a wide variety of training, practice and networking.

Would you recommend a Bosch Rexroth career to a friend and, if so, why?

Definitely! We have exciting technology and products, a culture of trust, highly motivated people and customers, and the feeling of really being able to make a difference.

I have recently joined Bosch Rexroth. I am very excited about my current project and the future of the business. There are lots of reasons I like working for the company: the fact that it has leading technology in different areas; the opportunities we get to develop our professional skills; the way it combines sustainable and profitable growth. Being part of the wider Bosch Group means we have help and input from an even bigger network of people, as well as opportunities for growth and development within the wider group.
